To be an AI engineer is first and foremost a solution designer. This person translates ambiguous business problems into AI-native solutions and ships them through the customer’s stack — Azure, AI Foundry, Databricks. Hands-on with LLMs, agents, and RAG; comfortable in a regulated-enterprise context
Primary purpose and function of this position:
- Solution design first: discuss business requirements with stakeholders across R&D, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Commercial, Finance, and Procurement; translate them into AI-native solutions with measurable ROI
- Build POCs → MVPs → production: rapidly prototype with real or synthetic enterprise data; harden into scalable services
- Design and implement RAG pipelines, copilots, and agentic workflows on the customer’s stack
- Define guardrails and governance: model validation, evaluation frameworks, safety and compliance checks
- Documentation: architecture diagrams, design docs, READMEs, and code comments
- Collaborate with full-stack and frontend engineers on integration; with QA on AI-output quality testing; with product on roadmap
- Deploy and Maintain AI components on Azure; monitor performance, cost, and quality
- Work individually with minimal supervision as well as in team environments

- RAG patterns: chunking, embeddings, retrieval evaluation
- Vector databases: Azure AI Search, pgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate
- Prompt engineering and structured output design
- Evaluation & observability: LangSmith, Langfuse, or in-house eval harnesses; offline/online quality measurement
