Project Description
We are engineering the next generation of connected intelligent fitness hardware. The device combines a high-performance interactive display, real-time digital weight resistance powered by advanced motor control, and personalized AI coaching into a sleek, wall-mounted kiosk system.
At the core of this experience is a custom Android/AOSP platform running on dedicated embedded hardware (Qualcomm platform). The system must operate with extreme reliability: our software directly interfaces with internal microcontrollers, sensors, and safety-critical motor drivers over low-latency serial buses while driving a responsive UI.
We are looking for an Android Open Source (AOSP) Engineer who bridges the gap between low-level Linux/kernel touchpoints, system-level Android middleware, and high-performance Kotlin services to own the core platform architecture.
What You Need For This Position
- AOSP platform engineering background. Experience building, flashing, and maintaining custom AOSP/vendor trees on physical devices (Qualcomm preferred); proficiency with lunch, m, Android.bp/.mk, board configs, PRODUCT_PACKAGES, and OTA generation.
- Privileged apps & kiosk services experience. Hands-on work with platform-signed APKs, sharedUserId, priv-app, privapp-permissions allowlists, and persistent services that survive user switches and start before the launcher; handling Doze/App Standby exemptions.
- SELinux & device nodes. Ability to write/debug .te policies, file_contexts, and ueventd.rc for custom /dev/tty* nodes to securely own UART/serial links.
- IPC & hardware interfacing. Practical knowledge of Binder, Stable AIDL (versioning rules), and HIDL; ability to trace lost data between kernel and apps across serial (termios, TTY, USB-CDC/ACM), GPIO/sysfs, uevents, and wakelocks.
- Knowledge of Kotlin (Coroutines/Flow), Java, and C/C++ (NDK) for implementing binary protocols and state machines.
- Tooling, diagnostics & testing. Experience with structured logging (Kibana/OpenSearch), logcat/dumpsys/Perfetto, feature flags (LaunchDarkly), Git/CI (GitHub Actions), and unit testing (Robolectric / instrumented tests).
- Solid experience with Git, GitHub, and Jira.
- Ability to create clear, maintainable technical specifications and code documentation (Doxygen, Wiki, Markdown).
- English Proficiency. Upper-Intermediate (B2). Ability to conduct technical discussions, participate in meetings, and write professional documentation/emails for international clients.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with Qualcomm trust architectures (QSEE / TrustZone).
- Hands-on experience with hardware/firmware automated test tooling in Python (pytest, pyserial).
- Experience working on connected fitness equipment, robotics, or medical devices featuring safety-relevant motor controls and sensor loops.
What We Offer For Your Success
