We’re looking for a hands-on QA Lead to take ownership of our QA processes and lead the transformation towards a more efficient, scalable, and automation-driven testing approach.

You’ll be responsible for evaluating the existing QA team and testing practices, defining a new QA strategy, and building our test automation framework from the ground up. A key objective is to progressively transition the majority of repetitive manual regression testing to automated tests, improving test coverage, feedback cycles, and overall product quality.

This role combines technical leadership with hands-on engineering. We’re looking for someone who can challenge existing approaches, make sound technical decisions, and build a sustainable QA function while remaining actively involved in testing and automation.

What you’ll do

QA Strategy & Team Leadership

Review and redesign existing QA processes, workflows, and testing methodologies, establishing clear standards and best practices aligned with Agile and DevOps principles.
Evaluate the existing QA team, assess technical capabilities and performance, identify skill gaps, and recommend improvements to team structure and ways of working.
Define and own the QA strategy, balancing manual testing, automation, risk-based testing, and release requirements.
Lead, mentor, and develop QA testers, including workload planning, performance reviews, technical assessments, and participation in hiring.
Collaborate with Business, Development, and DevOps teams to embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
Communicate testing results, automation progress, quality metrics, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders.

Test Automation & Engineering

Design, build, and maintain a scalable test automation framework from scratch, selecting the appropriate tools, technologies, and architecture.
Define and execute an automation roadmap, progressively transitioning the majority of repetitive manual regression tests to automated test suites.
Develop and maintain automated tests for web applications, covering UI, REST API, integration, regression, and end-to-end scenarios.
Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and establish quality gates to enable continuous testing and rapid feedback.
Monitor automation coverage, test reliability, execution time, and defect trends, using metrics to measure effectiveness and guide improvements.
Leverage AI tools to accelerate test case design, automation development, test data generation, and defect investigation, while ensuring the quality and reliability of AI-generated outputs.
Promote shift-left testing, early defect detection, and continuous improvement across the development lifecycle.

What you bring

Must have

At least 1 year of experience leading a team of 3+ testers, including workload planning, process improvement, performance reviews, mentoring, and participation in hiring.
Strong hands-on experience in both manual testing and test automation, with a proven ability to improve QA processes and introduce or scale automation.
Experience building test automation frameworks from scratch using Playwright, Selenium, or Cypress.
Strong proficiency in REST API testing, including functional, negative, integration, and regression testing, using tools such as Postman or Swagger/OpenAPI.
Experience with web application testing, including UI automation, cross-browser testing, and end-to-end testing.
Practical experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and working with Git.
Working knowledge of SQL and experience validating data in relational databases.
Practical experience using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor to generate and improve test cases, automation scripts, test data, and QA workflows.
Good understanding of Agile and DevOps practices, risk-based testing, test design techniques, and QA metrics.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to balance team leadership with hands-on technical work and take ownership of QA improvements from planning through implementation.

Nice to have

Experience with TypeScript/JavaScript or Python for test automation.
Experience testing microservices, distributed systems, and third-party integrations.
Familiarity with Docker and automated test environments.
Experience with performance and load testing tools such as JMeter or k6.
Experience establishing quality gates, automation reporting, and metrics such as defect leakage and regression coverage.
