Automation QA Engineer

US-based product company is looking for a senior SDET to build and own test automation for a connected-home SaaS platform. Remote · Full-time B2B.

• Built a test automation framework/process from scratch for a production web application
• Fluent English for async work with a US-based engineering team
• Hands-on use of AI tools in your QA / engineering workflow

What you’ll do

• Own and evolve the E2E automation layer in Playwright + TypeScript
• Define what should be automated, what requires manual QA, and what is not worth testing
• Strengthen API / backend testing and CI reliability
• Reduce flaky tests and improve test signal
• Perform exploratory testing on high-risk areas: payments, integrations, real-time sync
• Turn production incidents into regression coverage
• Work directly with the Head of Engineering and a small senior team

First 90 days

• Weeks 1–4: mostly manual/exploratory testing to learn the product and identify risks
• Weeks 5–12: build automation around the highest-risk flows
• Afterwards: roughly 70% automation / 30% exploratory & release testing

Requirements

• 5+ years in QA, including 3+ years in automation
• Proven experience building or substantially designing automation from scratch
• Strong TypeScript / JavaScript
• Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or similar
• Strong API/backend testing experience
• Practical approach to flaky tests beyond retries
• High ownership and ability to work independently
• Fluent written and spoken English
• Active use of AI tools such as Claude, Copilot, Cursor, Gemini, Playwright MCP, or similar
• 3–4 hours overlap with US Eastern Time
