Automation QA Engineer
About Paybis
Paybis is a global fintech company operating at the intersection of crypto and traditional payments. Since 2014, we’ve been building products that help people and businesses buy, sell, and exchange cryptocurrency. We serve 8.6M+ customers across 180+ countries and operate as a self-funded company with ~200 people across Europe, Ukraine, and the US.
We hold a MiCA CASP authorisation and a Payment Institution (PSD2) licence in Latvia — one of a small group of companies in Europe holding both simultaneously — alongside FinCEN MSB and FINTRAC registrations.
The Role
We are looking for a QA Automation Engineer with strong manual testing experience to join our Mobile team. You will own manual testing and test automation for our native iOS and Android applications — a financial product used by millions of users globally to buy, sell and exchange cryptocurrency.
This is not a web automation role. You will work with real payment flows on real devices: card tokenization SDKs, 3DS challenge UI, biometric authentication, and vendor-integrated mobile code. The cost of a missed bug is real — App Store rejection, compliance incidents, financial losses for users.
What You’ll Be Working On
- Manual testing of DEV tasks in scrum team with other QAs
- Write and maintain manual test cases in AlureTestOps, API tests using Postman and REST-assured
- Design, build and maintain automated test suites for iOS and Android using Java + Appium
- Cover mobile payment flows end-to-end: card tokenization, 3DS challenge UI, biometric auth (Face ID / Touch ID), error states
- Integrate tests into GitLab CI pipelines — smoke, regression, nightly runs on real devices and emulators
- Intercept and analyse mobile traffic using Charles Proxy / Proxyman for test validation and debugging
- Work with Allure TestOps for test management and reporting
- Diagnose production issues using Firebase Crashlytics and mobile logs
- Participate in test planning and collaborate closely with developers and product team
- Identify gaps in iOS vs Android coverage and proactively close them
What We’re Looking For
Must have:
- 5+ years of manual testing experience
- 3+ years of QA Automation experience with Java
- JUnit or TestNG — writing and structuring test suites
- GitLab CI or equivalent — working with pipelines
- REST API testing — Postman and/or code-based HTTP testing
- Charles Proxy / Proxyman — mobile traffic interception
- SQL — basic queries for test data validation
- Understanding of mobile payment flows: card tokenization, 3DS, biometric auth
- Understanding of iOS vs Android platform differences in automation
- Manual testing skills — ability to analyse behaviour and find edge cases
- English Upper-Intermediate+ — documentation, bug reports, communication
Nice to have:
- Hands-on Appium experience — iOS and Android, native app automation
- BrowserStack or Sauce Labs — cloud device testing
- Allure TestOps — test management and reporting
- XCUITest or Espresso — native mobile automation
- Firebase Crashlytics — working with crash reports
- Experience with payment SDK providers (Checkout.com, Worldpay, Stripe or similar)
- Kotlin for Android test automation
- Contract testing (Pact or similar) for vendor API validation
- Experience in fintech, payments or regulated mobile applications
- ISTQB certification or equivalent
- Knowledge of PCI DSS requirements at a product level
What We Value Beyond the Tech
- Ownership — you see gaps in mobile coverage before being asked; you fix flaky tests without waiting for a task
- Analytical Thinking — mobile payment flows are complex: iOS vs Android differences, vendor-specific behaviour, multiple OS versions and devices. You think in systems, not just test cases
- Attention to Detail — one missed bug in a payment flow is a real financial consequence; you care about that
- Collaboration — you work with in-house backend teams and external vendor teams; you discuss testability before a feature is built
- Proactiveness — you improve manual test cases coverage and the Appium framework, close iOS/Android coverage gaps, and flag risks early
What Success Looks Like
First 30 days — Onboarded into MobApp manual test cases, codebase and mobile test framework. First manual test cases written and automated tests merged. Understand iOS and Android platform specifics in our stack.
First 90 days — Manual testing of DEV tasks and shipping automated coverage for mobile payment flows independently. Contributing to framework improvements. Trusted QA voice in the mobile team.
First 6 months — Stable test suites with measurable coverage across iOS and Android. Actively reducing regression time and improving release confidence.
Interview Process
- HR screening
- Technical interview with Head of QA and QA Automation
- Final interview with Head of HR
What We Offer
- Ownership of manual testing and mobile test automation across iOS and Android — real impact on a product used by millions
- Modern stack: Java + Appium + GitLab CI + Allure TestOps + BrowserStack
- Product company, not an agency — your work shapes a real product end to end
- Remote-first, high autonomy
- Medical insurance
- Learning and development budget
- Performance bonus tied to results and delivery milestones
- English language courses
- Regular team events
Be aware
- This is not a web testing role — mobile-specific experience is essential
- High bar for quality: real financial transactions, App Store compliance, vendor coordination
- You will work with external vendor code — strong communication and testability mindset required
Paybis is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome QA engineers who take quality seriously and move without being asked.
