Role Overview
As a QA Automation Engineer at Flamingo, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our backend services and microservice architecture. You'll build robust test automation frameworks, develop integration and E2E tests, and work closely with engineering, DevOps, and support teams to drive a culture of quality.
What You'll Do
- Own end-to-end test strategy: exploratory, functional, regression, integration, and cross-browser testing
- Build and maintain automated test suites using Selenium WebDriver and/or Playwright for Java; API automation with RestAssured against REST and GraphQL endpoints
- Build isolated testing environments using Docker and related tools
- Integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines keeping suites fast, reliable, and low-flakiness
- Use AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate test authoring and maintenance
- Test AI/LLM features: evals, prompt regression suites, hallucination and safety checks
- Investigate defects with rigor: clear repro steps, root-cause hypotheses, tight collaboration with developers
- Create and maintain test documentation, including test plans and coverage reports
- Champion shift-left testing, risk-based prioritization, and observability for tests
Qualifications
Must-Have:
- 5+ years of QA experience with strong manual testing foundation: test design, exploratory testing, sharp eye for edge cases
- 4+ years of hands-on test automation experience in Java (11+), Maven or Gradle, JUnit/TestNG, Git
- Selenium WebDriver and/or Playwright for Java; Page Object frameworks, stabilizing flaky suites
- RestAssured for API testing (contract, integration, negative-path); OpenAPI/Swagger fluency
- Hands-on GraphQL: queries, mutations, schema changes, error shapes
- Strong understanding of microservices architecture and backend testing principles
- Basic Docker and Kubernetes: running containers locally, kubectl logs, debugging tests in containerized environments
- CI/CD: GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI — integrating tests and triaging failures
- Command line comfort (bash/zsh) and log-digging (grep/jq, Kibana, Datadog)
- Hands-on AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) as part of daily work
- Excellent written communication: bug reports, test plans, explaining quality risks
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience with Testcontainers, Pact, or WireMock
- Eval/regression suites for LLM-powered features
- Performance testing (JMeter, k6, Gatling)
- Security testing fundamentals (OWASP Top 10)
- Visual regression tooling (Percy, Applitools, Playwright snapshots)
- Experience building test processes from scratch in early-stage teams
- ISTQB or equivalent certification
