Backend Engineer
We are looking for an experienced Senior ColdFusion Developer to support and stabilize a large, established German multi-vendor marketplace during an important technology transition.
The platform is built on ColdFusion/Lucee and MySQL and has been operating successfully for many years. It supports a significant customer base, thousands of sellers, and an extensive product catalog spanning thousands of categories across consumer and business segments.
The marketplace handles complex seller workflows, product and catalog management, orders, payments, and multiple external integrations. The current focus is on maintaining platform stability and business continuity while the company prepares for the next stage of its technology evolution.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of hands-on ColdFusion and/or Lucee development experience in production environments
- Strong experience maintaining mature, business-critical web applications and large existing codebases
- Expert-level MySQL knowledge, including complex schemas and database structures
- Strong experience with REST APIs and third-party integrations
- Experience with e-commerce, marketplace, ERP, merchant, or similar integration-heavy systems
- Strong debugging and production troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of issues, and manage priorities across support and development tasks
- Good English communication skills and willingness to document code, integrations, and system knowledge
- Nice to have: Experience with large-scale or high-traffic marketplace platforms
- Nice to have: Experience with external marketplace, ERP, merchant, or product feed integrations
- Nice to have: Experience supporting legacy systems during migration or modernization
- Nice to have: Understanding of seller, order, payment, and marketplace workflows
- Nice to have: Familiarity with AWS-hosted applications
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and support the existing ColdFusion/Lucee marketplace platform
- Investigate and resolve bugs, production issues, and support escalations affecting sellers and buyers
- Maintain and develop business-critical integrations with external systems and partners
- Work with complex MySQL schemas, existing application logic, and legacy code
- Support selected critical development initiatives required to keep the platform operational during migration
- Improve application stability and troubleshoot issues across application, database, and integration layers
- Produce and maintain technical documentation for the codebase, integrations, and key system behavior
