Backend Engineer

As a Senior Backend Engineer (PHP/Laravel), you'll play a key role in building and evolving the backend systems that power our fintech products. Working at the intersection of fintech and engineering, you'll develop B2B solutions. You'll work on production systems where reliability, performance, and scalability matter - from developing new features to integrating external services and solving complex technical challenges.

You'll have a high level of ownership over your work, work closely with experienced engineers and product stakeholders, and have the freedom to make technical decisions without unnecessary layers of management.
 

About You

• 3+ years of commercial experience in PHP development or a similar backend engineering role.
• Strong hands-on experience with PHP and Laravel.
• Solid understanding of MySQL and relational databases.
• Strong knowledge of OOP, SOLID principles, and design patterns.
• Practical experience with CQRS and understanding of when and why to apply it.
• Experience working with Docker and containerized development environments.
• Experience building and maintaining production-ready backend applications.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs and experience integrating third-party services.
• Ability to investigate problems, identify root causes, and deliver reliable solutions rather than quick fixes.
• Comfortable taking ownership of tasks and making technical decisions independently.
• Good attention to detail and a pragmatic approach to software development.
• English A2+ - enough to communicate about work-related and routine technical topics.
   

What You Will Do

• Develop and maintain backend services and core product functionality using PHP and Laravel.
• Design and implement new features from technical requirements through to production.
• Troubleshoot, investigate, and fix bugs and production issues.
• Integrate the product with external services, APIs, and payment-related providers.
• Work with MySQL to design, optimize, and maintain database solutions.
• Apply OOP, SOLID, design patterns, and CQRS to build clean, maintainable, and scalable code.
• Participate in technical discussions and contribute to architectural decisions.
• Improve existing functionality, performance, reliability, and code quality.
• Collaborate with Product and other Engineering team members to turn business requirements into effective technical solutions.
• Take ownership of your work from implementation to deployment and ongoing support.
