🎯 Role Overview:
We’re looking for a Senior PHP Backend Developer to strengthen the engineering team of a high-load iGaming platform, built on PHP (Laravel and Symfony).
You’ll work on backend services, APIs, and event-driven integrations using Kafka, RabbitMQ, and Redis, ensuring reliable asynchronous processing across a distributed system.
The role involves designing scalable solutions, improving existing architecture, refactoring legacy code, and maintaining system performance and stability.
We’re looking for an engineer who can take end-to-end ownership of features, make independent technical decisions, and contribute to code quality, architectural improvements, and team knowledge sharing.
⚙️ Your Tasks:
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs of varying complexity using PHP (Laravel and Symfony).
- Develop and support event-driven integrations based on Kafka and RabbitMQ (producers/consumers, queues, message processing).
- Understand how asynchronous processing works: message flow, delivery guarantees, idempotency, retries, ordering, backpressure, and failure handling.
- Design and optimize data handling: relational databases and caching/storage with Redis.
- Apply design patterns and solid architectural principles (SOLID, DDD elements, layered and event-driven architecture) when building and reviewing code.
- Refactor existing code: improve structure and readability, reduce coupling, and pay down technical debt without breaking behavior.
- Analyze requirements and proactively highlight technical risks and constraints to the team before development starts.
- Make architectural decisions with scalability, reliability, and performance of a distributed system in mind.
- Perform code reviews and maintain code quality standards and best practices within the team.
- Investigate and resolve defects and incidents using logs, databases, metrics, and monitoring.
- Build and maintain technical documentation and improve development processes within the team.
- Mentor colleagues and share expertise within the engineering community.
- Jump into tasks of adjacent teams when needed.
👤 Our criteria:
- Successfully onboard into the team’s development processes, PHP codebase (Laravel and Symfony), and infrastructure (Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis).
- Demonstrate ownership of assigned features from requirements analysis through production release and support.
- Confidently develop and maintain asynchronous integrations via Kafka/RabbitMQ with minimal supervision, with a clear understanding of how async processing behaves under load and failures.
- Apply suitable design patterns and architectural approaches, and keep code clean through regular refactoring.
- Deliver consistent, high-quality development and delivery.
- Effectively collaborate with other developers, QA, product managers, and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to improvements in architecture, development processes, or team knowledge sharing.
- Show the ability to independently break down tasks, make sound technical decisions, and see them through to completion.
💼 Our offer:
- Flexible work setup — work remotely or from the office, we focus on results, not location;
- Support for a comfortable work environment — we compensate coworking expenses and EcoFlow power stationsto help our team stay productive during power outages in Ukraine;
- Unlimited vacation and sick leave, because we trust our people to manage their time responsibly;
- Relocation support for team members who want to move;
- Regular performance-based bonuses that reward individual and team impact;
- Learning support — we cover 50% of professional courses and development programs;
- Language & wellbeing support — we cover 50% of English classes and psychological consultations;
- Career growth opportunities — we prioritize internal promotions and development;
- Team culture that actually feels like one — regular gifts, company merch, and team events throughout the year;
