On behalf of our Client, Mobilunity is looking for Senior Java Backend Engineer.
Our client is a high-growth, award-winning African nonprofit on a mission to radically transform healthcare access. The organization works across Africa to strengthen the potential and resilience of adolescent girls by providing access to stigma-free, no-cost, quality-assured healthcare services.
Their technology platform connects community organizations, healthcare providers, and retail partners by enabling referrals, verifying service delivery, facilitating payments, and generating real-time data.
The company operates across Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Burkina Faso, South Africa, and Nigeria, with additional offices in Portugal, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. The global team consists of more than 250 international colleagues.
The role is part of an Agile technology team responsible for developing and maintaining the software platform that supports the organization’s services across multiple countries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and develop new features for the software platform.
- Apply software engineering principles across the design, development, maintenance, testing, and evaluation of software.
- Build reliable, scalable, and maintainable backend solutions.
- Contribute to the development of software from the ground up.
- Ensure the software developed is secure and appropriately protects information and personal data.
- Actively participate in technical meetings, projects, and Agile team activities.
- Collaborate closely with other engineers and team members to deliver platform functionality.
- Contribute to Agile rituals and development practices.
- Document technical work clearly so that it can be understood and maintained by other team members.
- Stay up to date with relevant technologies, engineering practices, and industry developments.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the team’s development processes and technical practices.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of professional experience working with Java backend development.
- Strong experience with Java backend tools and frameworks, including Spring.
- Proven experience building software from the ground up.
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles, with a focus on code quality, maintainability, and scalability.
- Experience developing scalable backend systems and services.
- Strong problem-solving and logical-thinking skills.
- Experience working in an Agile software development environment.
- Good understanding of information security and personal data protection in software development.
- Excellent English communication skills, both spoken and written.
- Ability to work effectively as part of an international and distributed team.

- Experience working with microservices architecture.
