Backend Engineer

We are launching a major new long-term initiative for a European financial-infrastructure client in the critical-minerals and battery traceability domain.

About the Project

• Project Stage: Starting with a discovery and architecture phase, followed by active build.
• Duration: long-term
• Initial Team Composition: A senior-level core team (Blockchain, Backend, DevOps, QA, BA, Solution Architect, PM) scaling up to 20+ specialists.
• Core Tech Stack: Java/Kotlin, Spring or Micronaut, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Redis, gRPC/REST, Kubernetes, Prometheus/Grafana/OpenTelemetry, k6/Gatling/JMeter.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Experience: 5+ years of commercial software engineering experience.
• Technical Competencies:
  
  • Strong proficiency in Java/Kotlin and Spring or Micronaut.
  • Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, Kafka, Redis, gRPC/REST, and Kubernetes.
  • Deep understanding of observability and performance testing (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, k6, Gatling, JMeter).
  • Experience engineering deterministic high-throughput pipelines (handling ~2—3k tps with p99 under 50ms).
• Language Proficiency: Upper-Intermediate (B2/C1) or higher.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Ability to support the Solution Architect during the discovery phase and rapidly research/adopt new technologies.
• Readiness and capability to author technical documentation and Solution Architecture specifications.
• Experience with blockchain or Hardware Security Modules (HSM).
• Hands-on background in building AI-powered workflows to automate developer routines, coupled with the initiative to propose and embed such automations into the SDLC.

Functional Duties & Responsibilities

• Build the transaction-processing pipeline, covering filtering, deterministic pass/quarantine/reject decisions, and chained audit logs while engineering to high-throughput and low-latency targets.
• Develop reporting tools, performance test harnesses, and integrations with compliance services.
• Ensure robust, idempotent processing alongside rigorous capacity planning and profiling.

Probationary Period Focus

• Collaborate with the Solution Architect to define architectural principles and patterns for this greenfield project.
• Work with the PMO to establish streamlined development processes.
• Partner with DevOps to architect and finalize the CI/CD strategy.
• Lay a solid technical foundation and backlog to support smooth team expansion.

Soft Skills

• Strong teamwork and client-facing collaboration abilities.
• Capability to clearly articulate and defend technical decisions.
• Confidence in conducting regular stakeholder and team demos.

Work Schedule & Logistics: At least 4 hours of daily overlap with CET, occasional travel within Europe.
