Role Description
Design, scale, and evolve high-performance Python backend systems for enterprise forecasting workloads while helping migrate and evolve functionality from Ruby on Rails into a unified Python based platform.
Responsibilities
Initially, you will help lead the gradual migration of forecasting functionality from an existing Ruby on Rails application into a Python-based platform.
This is not a lift-and-shift rewrite role. We are looking for experienced engineers who can:
- Recognize architectural patterns across systems
- Identify opportunities for performance and scalability improvements during migration
- Use modern AI-assisted engineering workflows effectively to accelerate delivery while maintaining high engineering standards
As the platform evolves, you will help optimize CPU, memory, and database-intensive workloads, improve scalability and reliability under production load, design and extend backend APIs and services, and contribute to the long-term architecture of the forecasting platform.
How you will grow
As a Senior Software Engineer at Cloverpop, you will contribute to improving our capabilities, velocity, capacity for building and maintaining large complex products, engineering processes, application speed and performance, security, and improving code quality. You will be expected to mentor less experienced teammates and be proactive around improving how our team operates.
Required Qualifications
- A degree in CS or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years building production Python backend or web services
- Strong experience scaling backend systems under significant production load
- Deep understanding of performance optimization (CPU, memory, database/query performance, concurrency, caching, etc.)
- Experience with high-performance Python computing libraries and optimization techniques
- Strong experience with libraries for efficient numerical computations and data processing (NumPy, Pandas, Polars, etc.)
- SQL and data modeling skills
- Experience building APIs and scalable backend architectures
- Strong judgement and systems thinking
- Experience using AI-assisted or agentic engineering workflows professionally
- Commitment to software engineering best practices and continuous improvement
Nice to Have
- Experience with forecasting, analytics, or other calculation-intensive systems
- Legacy system modernization or migration experience
- AWS and Heroku infrastructure familiarity
- Familiarity with Ruby programming language and MVC architecture
- Performance profiling and observability tooling
- Playwright (Javascript) for integration and load testing
- CI/CD environments
