Backend Engineer
We are looking for a Backend Engineer with hands-on banking experience to join our banking platform team.
You will build production-grade backend services in C# / .NET, working on financial products and banking workflows where correctness, reliability, auditability, and maintainability are critical.
The ideal candidate will have recent experience developing banking products, particularly savings accounts and interest-bearing financial products, with a solid understanding of interest calculations, interest accrual, and the business rules behind these products.
This role is for someone who can do more than complete tickets. We want an engineer who understands the banking product context, asks the right questions, takes ownership of their work end-to-end, and makes sound technical decisions without needing every detail spelled out.
What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain backend services using C#, .NET, and ASP.NET Core.
- Develop and support banking product functionality, particularly savings accounts, interest calculations, and interest accrual processes.
- Implement complex banking business rules, ensuring financial accuracy, data consistency, and auditability.
- Design APIs, background workers, and message-driven workflows.
- Work with SQL databases, Entity Framework, and performance-sensitive data access.
- Apply clean architecture principles across use cases, domain logic, repositories, and infrastructure.
- Write meaningful unit and integration tests, including tests covering financial calculations, edge cases, and business rules.
- Support production systems with effective logging, monitoring, and failure handling.
- Collaborate with product, operations, QA, and other engineers to clarify banking requirements and deliver reliable solutions.
Requirements
- Recent, hands-on experience in Banking or Financial Services / FinTech, ideally developing lending, savings, or other interest-bearing banking products.
- Practical knowledge of savings accounts, including how these products operate and the business rules governing them.
- Understanding of interest-rate calculations and interest accrual, including how interest is calculated, accumulated, and credited to customer accounts.
- Familiarity with banking product rules, financial transactions, account balances, and the importance of accuracy and consistency in financial systems.
- Ability to translate banking business requirements into reliable backend logic and identify potential financial edge cases.
Technical Requirements
- Solid C# / .NET backend development experience.
- Good understanding of REST APIs, SQL, and service-based architecture.
- Experience with testing, CI/CD, and code reviews.
- Awareness of messaging, retries, idempotency, concurrency, and transactional boundaries.
- Ability to reason through ambiguous requirements and identify edge cases.
- Strong ownership mindset: you care about what happens after the code is deployed.
Nice to Have
- Experience with RabbitMQ, Redis, Azure/AWS, Docker, and observability tools.
- Experience with core banking systems or integrations with banking platforms.
- Experience implementing financial calculations, scheduled interest processing, or transaction reconciliation.
