Backend Engineer

Why this role exists:

The Tech Lead is a senior engineering role responsible for driving technical excellence within a specific product or platform stream. This role combines hands-on development with architectural leadership, ensuring high-quality, scalable, and maintainable solutions. The Tech Lead partners closely with Head of stream, Product Managers, and Team Leads to deliver business value while maintaining strong technical standards.

What you’ll drive:

Technical Architecture and System Design

• Own high-level system design and architecture decisions for features, services, and platform components.
• Perform technical evaluation of tasks, initiatives, and projects, including feasibility and trade-offs.
• Collaborate with Team Leads and other Tech Lead on technical roadmap alignment.
• Support incident resolution and root cause analysis for complex production issues.

Hands-on Development and Quality Standards

• Contribute as an Individual Contributor (IC) to critical or complex parts of the system.
• Drive technical excellence within the assigned stream, ensuring alignment with company-wide engineering standards.
• Ensure code quality, reusability, scalability, and extensibility across owned services/components.
• Review and guide implementation approaches to ensure best engineering practices.
• Ensure adherence to Definition of Done (DoD) and engineering standards.

Delivery and Technical Leadership

• Provide high-level effort estimations and support planning activities.
• Act as a technical authority in at least one programming language or technology stack.
• Balance technical quality vs delivery speed.

Mentorship and Engineering Culture

• Mentor engineers and contribute to their professional development and technical growth.
• Assist Team Leads in defining and executing Personal Development Plans (PDPs).
• Promote knowledge sharing, documentation, and engineering culture improvements.

What makes you a GR8 fit:

Must-have

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including prior experience in a senior or lead engineering role.
• Proven experience in Scala and Java.
• Experience designing and building scalable distributed systems in product-based or B2B environments.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Strong system design, architectural thinking, and deep understanding of software engineering best practices.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical skills, and effective technical communication across engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
• Ownership, accountability, and ability to work in cross-functional environments.
• Upper-Intermediate (B2+) level of English and Ukrainian or Russian.

• iGaming domain experience.
