We are looking for a Junior Java Developer with 1–2 years of commercial experience to join a long-term education project.
About the Project:
The project is a Student Information System used by school districts to manage student data, attendance, grading, report cards, and other academic processes.
The system includes integrations with learning management systems, assessment tools, and other third-party services. The team works on both new functionality and maintenance of the existing codebase.
You will work with established business logic, reporting functionality, database operations, and production features used in daily school processes.
Tech Stack: Java, Struts 1.3. Jakarta RESTful Web Services (JAX-RS), Hibernate / JPA, JasperReports, SQL, Git
Requirements:
- 1–2 years of commercial experience with Java
- Good knowledge of Java Core and OOP principles
- Experience with SQL and relational databases
- Basic understanding of web application development
- Basic knowledge of Jakarta RESTful Web Services (JAX-RS)
- Basic knowledge of Hibernate / JPA
- Experience with Git
- Ability to read and understand existing code
- Willingness to work with a legacy codebase
- Basic understanding of LLMs and agentic AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Codex
- English level: Intermediate+ or higher
Would Be a Plus:
- Basic knowledge of Angular 10+
- Experience with Struts
- Experience with JasperReports
- Experience with third-party integrations
Responsibilities:
- Develop new features and maintain existing functionality
- Investigate and fix production issues
- Work with SQL queries, reports, and third-party integrations
- Analyze existing business logic before implementing changes
- Write maintainable code and verify changes before release
- Participate in code reviews, task estimation, and technical discussions
- Collaborate with developers and QA engineers during feature development and testing
- Use AI tools to support development, research, and problem-solving tasks
