Data Engineer

We are looking for a Data/BI Engineer on a part-time, freelance basis to join a healthcare-focused project in the women’s health diagnostics domain. The product is data-driven and clinically impactful, aimed at improving pregnancy outcomes through advanced diagnostic solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and support batch data pipelines from internal and external data sources.
• Work with Azure-based data infrastructure for data ingestion, processing, and storage.
• Develop and maintain data models for DWH / analytical reporting.
• Write, optimize, and debug complex SQL queries.
• Use Python for data processing, automation, validation, and integration tasks.
• Work with Spark for data transformation and processing when required.
• Prepare reliable datasets for BI/reporting tools, including Tableau.
• Implement data quality checks, validation rules, and reconciliation logic.
• Support incremental loads, backfills, and troubleshooting of data issues.
• Collaborate with analysts, BI developers, business stakeholders, and engineering teams.
• Monitor pipeline execution, investigate failures, and improve reliability of data flows.

Requirements:

• 3+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or similar role.
• Strong hands-on experience with SQL.
• Good practical experience with Python.
• Experience with batch data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.
• Experience with Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, ADLS, or similar Azure data tools.
• Experience with DWH concepts and analytical data modelling.
• Experience with Spark or similar distributed data processing tools.
• Understanding of data quality, validation, and reconciliation practices.
• Experience preparing data for Tableau or other BI/reporting tools.
• Experience with Tableau Server / Tableau Cloud from the data engineering side.
• Ability to investigate data discrepancies and troubleshoot pipeline issues.
• Good communication skills and ability to work with business and technical teams.

Nice to have:

• Experience with CI/CD, Git, Docker, or workflow orchestration tools.
• Experience with regulated, healthcare, finance, or enterprise reporting environments.
• Understanding of dimensional modelling, slowly changing dimensions, and incremental data processing.
