Data Engineer
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Palantir Foundry Engineer / Forward Deployed Engineer to join an existing enterprise project built on Palantir Foundry.
This is not a greenfield implementation. The platform is already in production, and the engineer will be responsible for understanding the existing Foundry architecture, maintaining and extending current functionality, implementing new requirements, resolving technical issues, and improving the solution over time.
The role combines hands-on software and data engineering with solution architecture and direct collaboration with customer stakeholders.
The successful candidate must have hands-on commercial experience working with Palantir Foundry and be comfortable entering an existing Foundry environment, understanding how its components interact, and making changes without disrupting production workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and understand an existing Palantir Foundry implementation, including its data pipelines, Ontology, applications, integrations, and dependencies.
- Maintain and extend existing Foundry functionality based on evolving customer requirements.
- Modify and develop data pipelines, transformations, datasets, and integrations.
- Work with existing Ontology models, including Object Types, Link Types, Properties, Actions, Functions, and related business logic.
- Extend the Ontology when new business entities, relationships, or workflows are introduced.
- Develop and enhance operational applications built with Workshop or other Foundry application capabilities.
- Troubleshoot issues across data pipelines, Ontology, applications, permissions, and integrations.
- Assess the impact of proposed changes on existing Foundry resources and downstream dependencies.
- Integrate Foundry with external systems using APIs, data pipelines, or other integration mechanisms.
- Develop or maintain custom applications using OSDK / Developer Console where applicable.
- Build and maintain Python, SQL, TypeScript, or other code-based components used within the Foundry solution.
- Investigate production issues and identify root causes.
- Improve reliability, maintainability, performance, and data quality.
- Work directly with customer stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical changes.
- Provide technical recommendations when requirements affect the existing architecture.
- Participate in solution design, estimation, implementation, testing, and deployment.
- Document architecture changes and important implementation decisions.

Required Engineering Skills
- 5+ years of professional software engineering or data engineering experience.
- Strong Python and SQL skills.
- Experience with modern software architecture and APIs.
- Strong understanding of data modeling and data transformation.
- Experience with relational databases.
- Ability to understand and modify an unfamiliar production codebase.
- Experience debugging complex systems with multiple dependencies.
- Understanding of CI/CD and production software delivery.
- Experience working with cloud or enterprise infrastructure.
- Ability to assess the impact of changes before implementation.
Customer-Facing Skills
- Experience working directly with enterprise customers.
- Ability to clarify ambiguous requirements.
- Ability to explain technical constraints and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable participating in technical discovery and solution discussions.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical tasks.
