Introduction

We’re looking for an experienced engineer to take ownership of the tooling behind our embedded software organization.
The build system is not a finished product. A major part of this role will be moving production software from GN and CMake to Bazel without disrupting the teams shipping on top of them.

Impact & Responsibilities

Lead the Bazel migration across a line of projects.
Build and maintain Bazel rules, toolchains, platforms, and dependency management for C++, Python, and Rust.
Support native and cross-compiled builds for x86_64, aarch64, and embedded ARM targets.
Maintain our Nix and NixOS infrastructure, including development environments, packages, system images, and binary caches.
Improve CI pipelines, build performance, release automation, and artifact traceability.
Develop practical internal tools such as developer CLIs, MCP servers, diagnostics, and local environment tooling.
Operate and improve remote caching and execution infrastructure.
Work directly with firmware, compute, and test engineers to remove slow or unreliable parts of their workflows.
Work on analytics tools for CI monitoring

Qualifications

At least eight years of senior-level software engineering experience, with significant work on build systems, developer tooling, infrastructure, or release engineering.
Strong production experience with Bazel. You should be comfortable writing custom rules, defining toolchains and platforms, managing large dependency graphs, and working with remote caching or execution.
Experience migrating real projects from CMake, GN, or another established build system.
Hands-on knowledge of Nix or NixOS, including flakes, derivations, dependency pinning, and reproducible environments.
A solid understanding of compilers, linkers, sysroots, SDKs, ABIs, and cross-compilation.
Familiarity with Python packaging and tools such as uv, lockfiles, virtual environments, and wheels.
Familiarity with Cargo and the Rust dependency model.
The judgment to improve existing systems incrementally rather than replacing them without a clear benefit.
A degree in CS, EE, CE, or equivalent practical experience.

Bonus Qualifications

Embedded or high-reliability software
Hardware-in-the-loop or device-farm testing
Bazel remote execution services, Attic, sccache, or similar systems
MCP servers or other agent-facing engineering tools
Yocto and ARM-based Linux platforms
SBOMs, artifact signing, provenance, or software supply-chain security
