DevOps Engineer
About the role
We are hiring two DevOps engineers, one Middle and one Senior, to help take a new Azure Kubernetes platform from “it works” to production grade. The platform will replace two legacy environments that run the systems of a home energy business with tens of thousands of installations.
The Senior engineer owns the architecture and sets the standards. The Middle engineer implements within the agreed design and runs the platform day to day. Together you form a small team that can review each other’s work.
About the project
A German cleantech company in residential renewable energy (B2C). They sell and install complete home energy systems: rooftop solar, battery storage, heat pumps, EV wallboxes, and a dynamic electricity tariff.
You join 2 client-side DevOps engineers. The engagement is 6+ months, starting November 2026. Work format is hybrid or fully remote.
What you will do
Both levels
- Build Pulumi abstractions (cluster, network, storage, Key Vault, databases, resource groups) that carry real production workloads
- Port the legacy database abstraction and get it working
- Make the whole environment recreatable from code, and test a full rebuild
- Move observability from Datadog to Grafana at production quality
- Spawn production, infrastructure, and development environments from one codebase via configuration toggles, and enable on-demand ephemeral environments
- Standardize CI/CD on the cluster and let developers manage their own alerts and dashboards through repositories
Senior
- Own the architecture of the platform and make design decisions independently (AKS, networking, identity)
- Design the Pulumi abstractions and the multi-environment model
- Lead the port of the legacy database abstraction, and design and run the disaster recovery test
- Lead the Datadog to Grafana migration and set the standards for alerts and dashboards
- Resolve the CI tooling question together with the client’s DevOps lead
- Review pull requests, set coding standards, and mentor the Middle engineer
Middle
- Implement Pulumi modules and components within the agreed architecture
- Write and run the full-rebuild tests that prove the environment can be recreated from code
- Build Grafana dashboards and alert rules, and move existing ones over from Datadog
- Implement the configuration toggles and the tooling for ephemeral environments
- Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines and self-hosted runners
- Create templates and docs for developer self-service, operate the cluster day to day (upgrades, troubleshooting), and review teammates’ pull requests
What you bring
Both levels
- Production Kubernetes experience beyond deploying apps: you have built or operated the platform other developers deploy to
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform is fine, Pulumi is a plus), written as real Python and comfortable with object-oriented code (modules, classes, abstractions)
- Knowledge of the Kubernetes ecosystem: GitOps, service mesh / CNI, observability, secrets, policy engines
- CI/CD experience: pipelines, self-hosted runners, GitOps delivery
- Competent pull request review
- Confident spoken English for daily work with the client team
- Self-directed approach: comfortable with a moving target and an agile way of working, not waiting for a fully specified backlog
Senior (5+ years)
- Designed and owned Azure infrastructure end to end: AKS architecture and upgrades, networking (VNet, subnets, private endpoints), identity (Entra ID, managed identities, RBAC), Key Vault, storage
- You make architecture calls independently and have planned and tested disaster recovery
- Deep hands-on knowledge of the Kubernetes ecosystem, with the judgment to choose between tools, and the ability to mentor other engineers
Middle (3+ years)
- Hands-on experience inside an Azure environment designed by others: AKS, storage accounts, Key Vault, resource groups
- Real incident experience on Kubernetes: cluster operations, upgrades, and troubleshooting
Nice to have
- Pulumi in production
- Istio, Cilium, Argo CD, Kyverno, Kubescape, external-secrets, Kiali
- Grafana stack (dashboards, alerting, tracing) at production quality
- Self-hosted CI runners on Kubernetes
- Cluster-to-cluster migration experience (differing CNIs), a plus for Senior
- German (helps with tickets, not required)

Benefits
- Paid vacation and sick leaves in line with local standards
