Company’s mission: Softermii: Succeed Without (L)imitations. We will turn any idea into a valuable product.
Our plans as a company: We want to move from a regular outsourcing business to an ecosystem of outsourcing, education, and product development companies. Over the years, we have arrived at a highly personalized working model with transparent workflows.
This model allows us to create software products that meet our clients’ goals with precision. We operate in an AI-assisted development environment, where engineering thinking, logical validation, and responsibility for business outcomes are more important than simply writing code.
About the Role:
We are looking for a Strong Middle+ DevOps Engineer to own cloud infrastructure on 1–3 client projects at a time.
Our client is a US-based AI startup with several product streams, so you’ll work across multiple projects within one client account, together with our team (developers, QA, PM, designer) and the client’s in-house engineers.
The projects are ongoing, not built from scratch: you’ll start by auditing the current infrastructure, prioritizing what needs fixing, and leading the improvements together with the client’s team. On each project you are the infrastructure owner: you make decisions, explain them to the team and the client, and keep everything secure, observable and cost-efficient. Other DevOps engineers at Softermii are there for review, second opinions and backup.
Type of cooperation: Remote, Full-time. Some overlap with US working hours is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the infrastructure on 1–3 projects in parallel and prioritize between them.
- Audit existing infrastructure, turn findings into a prioritized plan with estimates, and lead remediation.
- Design and evolve AWS architecture across multiple accounts and environments.
- Run production EKS clusters: upgrades, autoscaling, ingress, secrets and tenant isolation.
- Design CI/CD pipelines in GitLab CI and GitHub Actions, from build to verified production rollout.
- Set up monitoring, logging and actionable alerting.
- Keep projects secure, pass client security reviews, and keep cloud costs justified.
- Write runbooks, architecture decision records and estimates; communicate decisions directly to clients.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- 4+ years in DevOps, including 2+ years running Kubernetes in production on AWS.
- Strong AWS fundamentals: IAM roles and policies, OIDC, IRSA or EKS Pod Identity; multi-account setups with Organizations and IAM Identity Center; EC2 and ECS Fargate.
- Networking: VPC and CIDR design, private subnets, NAT, security groups, Route 53, ALB and ACM, isolation between environments.
- Hands-on EKS ownership: version and add-on upgrades, node autoscaling, ingress, secrets from AWS, multi-tenant namespaces, production troubleshooting.
- Helm (writing your own charts) and Docker (multi-stage builds, image optimization).
- Terraform: reusable modules, remote state, multiple environments from one codebase, importing manually created resources, safe changes to shared modules.
- CI/CD design in GitLab CI and GitHub Actions: reusable components, matrix builds, protected environments, keyless AWS auth via OIDC.
- Release management: semantic versioning, immutable image tags, clear visibility of which version runs where, pipelines that fail when the rollout fails.
- Managed databases in production: RDS for PostgreSQL, ElastiCache for Redis, with backups and tested restores.
- Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, log shipping, low-noise alerting.
- Security: least privilege, no long-lived credentials, secrets kept out of Terraform state, security scanning in CI, WAF rules and rate limiting.
- Experience auditing existing infrastructure and AWS cost optimization (estimating, justifying and reducing spend).
- Practical experience using AI tools in daily engineering work, with the ability to review and verify outputs.
- English level B2+ (daily communication with the client’s team).
Nice to Have:
- Experience with other cloud providers (Azure, GCP).
- GPU workloads: LLM inference with vLLM, EC2 GPU instances, RunPod.
- Running RabbitMQ in production: limits, backups, recovery.
- Setting up WireGuard or OpenVPN for private network access.
- Node.js/pnpm monorepo builds.
- Experience as the only DevOps engineer on a project.
