DevOps Engineer
Job Title:
Principal DevOps Engineer
Who we are:
Adaptiq is a technology hub specializing in building, scaling, and supporting R&D teams for high-end, fast-growing product companies in a wide range of industries.
About the Product:
Our client is a major online gaming operator building a next-generation transactional platform for user account management. This is a greenfield project designed to operate in a highly regulated, high-volume environment and support millions of concurrent users. The platform will process financial transactions in real time and must ensure high availability, sub-second performance, data integrity, security, and full auditability. One of the key engineering challenges is maintaining reliability and performance during extreme traffic spikes and peak events.
The team is looking for strong technical expertise to help design and build a scalable, secure, and reliable platform that can meet strict regulatory and compliance requirements.ip and expertise are critical to ensure reliability, performance, and compliance at scale.
About the Role:
As a Principal DevOps Engineer, you will take the lead in building the cloud infrastructure and delivery platform from the ground up. You will shape the multi-account cloud foundation, network architecture, security controls, Kubernetes strategy, CI/CD pipelines, and observability framework before production workloads go live. The role combines hands-on infrastructure-as-code development with platform strategy, incident readiness, and compliance by design. You will work closely with engineering, security, and AI platform teams, share operational best practices, and ensure the platform remains highly available, secure, and performant at scale.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement a multi-account cloud foundation: account structure, landing zones, VPCs, Transit Gateway, IAM policies, and cost governance.
- Build and operate a resilient container platform using Amazon EKS, service mesh configuration, autoscaling strategies, and multi-AZ or multi-region deployment.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform or equivalent, and enable GitOps delivery with tools such as Argo CD.
- Create paved-road CI/CD pipelines to automate application build, test, and deployment processes for multiple product teams.
- Establish an observability stack including metrics, logs, tracing, and alerting (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch) and drive an SLO/error budget practice.
- Define and own production readiness: incident response process, on-call rotation design, runbooks, and chaos/load testing for major events.
- Lead migration of existing third-party platform components: dual-running environments, data migration pipelines, and cutover planning.
- Embed compliance into infrastructure: audit trail automation, environment segregation, backup/DR strategy, and controls aligned with regulatory requirements.
- Partner with AI platform engineers to provision and operate AI-assisted development infrastructure and integrate AI tools into DevOps workflows.
- Mentor and guide engineers organization-wide on cloud-native architectures, operational excellence, and infrastructure best practices.
Required Competence and Skills:
- 10+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform, or Infrastructure Engineering, including 3+ years at Staff/Principal level with organization-wide impact.
- Deep hands-on AWS expertise: EKS, EC2, RDS/Aurora, VPC, Transit Gateway, Route 53, IAM, and multi-account environments.
- Strong Terraform and Kubernetes expertise, including day-2 operations, upgrades, capacity planning, and cost optimization.
- Proven experience building CI/CD pipelines and developer platforms used across engineering teams.
- Experience running high-availability, high-throughput systems and handling major traffic spikes.
- Strong scripting/programming skills in Python, Go, or Bash, with the ability to review application code for infrastructure integration.
- Experience with backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity for critical systems.
- Excellent English communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions to both engineers and executives.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with cloud security, secrets management (e.g., Vault), and CI/CD security scanning (SAST/DAST/SCA).
- Familiarity with ISO 27001, SOC 2, or PCI DSS standards.
- Experience in online gaming, sports betting, fintech, or other regulated, high-transaction industries.
- Experience migrating from third-party vendor platforms.
- Knowledge of event streaming (Kafka/MSK) and large-scale database operations.
- Polish and/or Spanish language skills.
Why Us:
We provide 20 days of vacation leave per calendar year (plus official national holidays of a country you are based in).
We provide full accounting and legal support in all countries we operate.
