About the role
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Principal Firmware Engineer to take ownership of the embedded development of a complex electromechanical product.
You will work directly with motors, sensors and physical hardware, developing low-level firmware for a real-time system and solving challenging hardware-software integration problems.
This is an early-stage engineering role with significant technical ownership and the opportunity to shape both the product and its embedded architecture.
Responsibilities
- Own the embedded firmware stack and its technical direction.
- Develop and optimise real-time motor-control firmware for physical hardware.
- Integrate motors, sensors and other embedded components.
- Build and maintain firmware update, diagnostics and debugging capabilities.
- Work hands-on with hardware through rapid build-test-debug-iterate cycles.
- Diagnose complex hardware-software issues and drive them through to resolution.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, electronics and software engineers on full-system integration.
Requirements
- 6+ years of relevant firmware / embedded engineering experience.
- Strong low-level programming capability and experience developing firmware for physical hardware products.
- Experience with real-time firmware and motor control for robots, autonomous systems or other complex electromechanical hardware.
- Hands-on experience developing and tuning motor-control loops on real hardware.
- Experience working with motor controllers and integrating sensors into embedded systems.
- Experience developing embedded infrastructure such as firmware updates / OTA and debugging tooling.
- Strong experience debugging interactions between firmware, electronics and physical hardware.
- Ability to work effectively across firmware, electronics, mechanical and software disciplines.
- English — Upper-Intermediate (confident conversational level).
