YachtWay is hiring a Design Engineer who can move fluidly between design decisions and production code. You will own UI components end to end, from concept to shipped, working directly inside our shadcn and Tailwind design system rather than handing off static mockups.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build production-ready UI components in React and TypeScript.
  • Extend and maintain our component library on shadcn and Tailwind, including variants, tokens, and accessibility.
  • Prototype ideas directly in code to test hypotheses quickly, rather than relying on static mockups.
  • Improve existing flows and interfaces for clarity, speed, and conversion.
  • Participate in code review and uphold quality and consistency across the UI codebase.
  • Iterate quickly based on user feedback and stakeholder input.
  • Prepare lightweight UX documentation: user flows, component specs, and decision notes.
  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders on requirements and technical constraints, questioning assumptions where needed.
  • Estimate tasks realistically and deliver against your own commitments.

Requirements

  • Experience: 4+ years building software products. You are strong on one side of design and frontend engineering, and genuinely hands-on with the other.
  • Languages: English (upper-intermediate or above), Ukrainian (native).
  • Code: Production-level experience with React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS. Comfortable shipping real code, not only prototypes.
  • Design system: Hands-on experience building or extending a component-based design system on shadcn and Tailwind.
  • Tools: We do not use Figma. We design directly with Claude Code, so a genuinely confident, hands-on level of AI fluency is required.
  • Workflow: Confident with Git and GitHub, including branches, pull requests, and code review.
  • Accessibility and performance: Understanding of web accessibility standards (WCAG) and UI performance considerations.
  • Critical thinking: You question your own assumptions and the brief itself, not just the pixels. We care as much about how you reason through a problem as about the output.
  • Analytical thinking: You balance user needs, technical realities, and business outcomes.
  • Communication: You can explain your rationale, negotiate scope, and handle technical questions.
  • Mindset: Self-directed, curious, and comfortable operating in the space between design and engineering.
  • Planning: Comfortable estimating and planning timelines and deliverables.

Nice to have (bonus)

  • Experience with Storybook or similar component documentation tools.
  • Experience with UI testing, including unit and visual regression testing.
  • Contributions to open-source design systems or component libraries.
  • Exposure to analytics and experimentation.

How to Apply
Send your CV, portfolio, and a link to your GitHub profile or relevant code samples to HR@YachtWay.com. Applications without a portfolio will not be considered.
