Outstaff Hiring: Remote — Contract (Full-time, Long-term)

About the Role

e are looking for a Senior Full Stack Rust Engineer to build and maintain production-grade Rust applications. This is primarily a backend role with some frontend development using React.

You will work on scalable distributed systems, backend services, APIs, SQL optimization, and cloud-native infrastructure. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on Rust experience in production environments and enjoys solving complex engineering challenges.

Location: Remote (EU)
Engagement: Full-time, long-term contract

Time Zone: European business hours with 2-3 hours EST overlap

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain production Rust applications
• Build backend services, APIs, and system-level components
• Write and optimize complex SQL queries
• Debug production issues, including performance, concurrency, and memory-related problems
• Contribute to frontend development using React when required
• Design and implement distributed systems and microservices
• Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests
• Deploy and maintain applications running on Kubernetes
• Implement logging, monitoring, metrics, tracing, and alerting
• Participate in code reviews and technical discussions
• Mentor junior engineers and share Rust best practices
• Use AI-assisted development tools (such as Cursor or Claude CLI) responsibly while maintaining code quality

Must-Have Requirements

• 5+ years of commercial Rust development experience
• Strong knowledge of Rust ownership, lifetimes, traits, async programming, and error handling
• Experience with Rust frameworks such as Axum, Actix, Warp, or similar
• Experience debugging production Rust applications
• Strong backend engineering experience
• Experience building scalable APIs and backend services
• Strong SQL skills, including complex queries and performance optimization
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar relational databases
• Experience writing unit and integration tests
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines
• Experience working with Kubernetes and containerized applications
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Jaeger, etc.)
• Strong communication skills
• Experience mentoring other engineers

Nice to Have

• Experience with microservices and distributed systems
• Experience with gRPC, message queues, and event-driven architecture
• React and micro frontend experience
• AWS or GCP experience
• Infrastructure as Code experience
• Experience using AI coding assistants such as Cursor or Claude CLI
