Full Stack Engineer
Outstaff Hiring: Remote — Contract (Full-time, Long-term)
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Rust Engineer to join our client’s engineering team.
This is primarily a backend-focused role, working on production Rust applications, distributed systems, APIs, and databases, with some frontend development using React.
You’ll be responsible for building, improving, and maintaining reliable, high-performance applications in a cloud-based environment.
We’re looking for someone with strong hands-on Rust experience who can take ownership of their work, solve complex technical problems, and contribute to the team’s engineering decisions.

Time Zone: European business hours with 2-3 hours EST overlap
What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain production Rust applications, backend services, and APIs.Write and optimize complex SQL queries for performance and scalability.
- Debug production issues, including concurrency problems, memory-related issues, and performance bottlenecks.
- Contribute to frontend development using React when needed.
- Design and maintain microservices and distributed systems.
- Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
- Deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot applications running on Kubernetes.
- Implement logging, monitoring, tracing, and alerting.
- Participate in technical discussions, code reviews, and architecture decisions.
- Mentor junior engineers and share Rust best practices.
- Use AI-assisted coding tools such as Cursor or Claude CLI while maintaining code quality and security.
Must-Have Requirements
- 5+ years of commercial Rust experience building and maintaining production applications.
- Strong knowledge of Rust ownership, lifetimes, traits, error handling, and async programming.
- Experience with Tokio, async-std, or similar async runtimes.
- Experience with Rust frameworks such as Axum, Actix, Warp, or similar.
- Strong backend engineering experience, including APIs, background workers, and scalable services.
- Experience debugging production Rust applications, including panics, deadlocks, and performance issues.
- Strong SQL skills, including complex joins, window functions, indexing, and query optimization.
- Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar relational databases.
- Experience writing unit and integration tests.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and containerized environments.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or Jaeger.
- Good English communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and mentor other engineers.
Nice to Have
- Experience with microservices and distributed systems, including gRPC, message queues, and event-driven architectures.
- Experience with React and micro frontend architectures.
- Experience with AWS or GCP.
- Infrastructure as Code experience.
- Experience with property-based testing or fuzz testing.
- Experience using AI coding assistants such as Cursor, Claude CLI, or similar.
