Full Stack Engineer
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Full Stack Technical Lead to join a project for a US-based client operating in the Data Center sector. This is a hands-on technical leadership role with no direct reports. The position combines active development with technical decision-making, code quality ownership, code reviews, and mentoring other engineers.
The team works across different time zones, with most meetings concentrated during the UK afternoon hours.
A key part of the engineering approach is the use of Claude Code and AI-assisted development practices to improve development speed, quality, and overall engineering output. We are looking for someone comfortable working with AI coding tools and applying an agentic mindset to software development.
Responsibilities:
— Design, develop, and maintain complex, high-performance Java applications.
— Take technical ownership of solution implementation and engineering quality.
— Make and validate technical decisions across backend and frontend components.
— Develop backend services using Java, Spring, Spring Boot, and Hibernate.
— Design and maintain RESTful APIs and system integrations.
— Contribute to frontend development using Angular or React.
— Conduct code reviews and maintain engineering standards across the team.
— Mentor developers and support technical knowledge sharing.
— Identify technical risks, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities.
— Work with cloud-based infrastructure and containerized environments.
— Support observability and production monitoring practices.
— Contribute to CI/CD and development workflow improvements.
— Use Claude Code and AI-assisted development approaches to increase engineering productivity.
— Collaborate directly with the client and distributed engineering team in an Agile environment.
Requirements:
— 8+ years of commercial Java development experience.
— Strong hands-on expertise with: Java, Spring / Spring Boot, Hibernate, RESTful API development.
— Commercial frontend experience with Angular and/or React.
— Experience with cloud platforms: AWS and/or Azure.
— Strong understanding of containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.
— Experience with application monitoring and observability tools, including New Relic.
— Strong knowledge of Git and CI/CD pipelines.
— Proven technical leadership experience in Agile development environments.
— Experience conducting code reviews and mentoring engineers.
— Hands-on experience with Claude Code.
— Strong agentic mindset and practical understanding of how AI tools can be integrated into the development workflow.
— Ability to work independently and make technical decisions without formal people-management authority.
— Strong English communication skills for direct collaboration with a US-based client.

Role Positioning:
This is not a people-management position. The Technical Lead provides leadership through technical ownership, architectural decisions, code quality, mentoring, and engineering practices, while remaining actively involved in development.
The ideal candidate is a strong Full Stack Java Engineer who can combine deep hands-on expertise with technical leadership and modern AI-assisted development practices.
