Full Stack Engineer

8 weeks (possible extension)

We’re looking for a Full-Stack Engineer with strong Node.js and PostgreSQL skills — and genuine daily-driver experience with Claude Code — to lead a hands-on platform migration for a legal-tech startup, working directly with the client’s team.

Project: Our client is an MVP-stage legal-tech startup building a CLM (contract lifecycle management) and contract negotiation platform, in the spirit of products like Ironclad, Litera, and NetDocuments. The engagement covers migrating two closely related applications off the Base44 low-code platform onto a custom Node.js/PostgreSQL stack, with the existing React (Vite) frontend retained and only the API client swapped out.

Responsibilities

• Design a PostgreSQL schema from the existing Base44 JSON entity definitions and build a clean data-access layer (no heavy ORM ceremony)
• Port roughly 40 backend handlers from the source platform to Node.js, preserving business logic and behavior
• Implement authentication and authorization using AWS Cognito (user pools, Google federation, JWT middleware, token customization triggers)
• Re-implement the platform’s row-level, org-scoped access rules explicitly, in a single authorization chokepoint
• Build the API client layer connecting the existing React frontend to the new backend
• Port two DOCX/document-conversion functions
• Set up CI/CD and hosting for the new stack
• Use Claude Code as a core part of the delivery workflow — schema generation, handler porting, client-code generation — while maintaining rigorous verification of AI-generated output, especially around security-sensitive logic
• Communicate directly with the client (calls, written updates) without a proxy PM in the loop

Requirements

• Daily-driver proficiency with Claude Code — this role assumes AI-assisted throughput as the delivery model, not an occasional tool. Be ready to describe a real shipped project, how the work was structured (e.g., CLAUDE.md, verification habits), and when/why you don’t trust the output
• Strong professional experience with Node.js and PostgreSQL, including schema design and lightweight data-access layers
• Real, hands-on AWS Cognito experience: user pools, federated IdP, JWT middleware, token customization triggers
• Experience building multi-tenant systems, with a clear understanding of org-scoped data access and centralized authorization
• Security-minded approach to re-implementing access-control logic that was previously enforced invisibly by a platform
• Comfortable working from existing source code with minimal specs, making sound independent decisions on smaller items
• Preference for clean, simple architecture — no unnecessary microservices, no over-engineering
• Upper-Intermediate English or higher, with confidence in direct client communication
• Nice to have: React fluency for small frontend tasks (auth wiring, invite flow UI)
• Nice to have: prior platform-migration or replatforming experience
• Nice to have: exposure to DOCX/document-processing conversion logic
