Hardware Engineer
We are looking for an Electronics Hardware Engineer to join the development of interactive robotics and connected devices.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working hands-on with hardware: building and testing prototypes, integrating electronic components, designing circuits and PCBs, and troubleshooting hardware issues.
You will work with Raspberry Pi, microcontrollers, sensors, displays, audio modules, and other off-the-shelf components, while also designing custom electronic boards when standard solutions are not sufficient.
We highly value a practical engineering mindset. Personal electronics or robotics projects, maker experience, amateur radio, or other strong hands-on electronics experience will be considered a significant advantage.
What you will do
- Select and integrate single-board computers, microcontrollers, displays, audio modules, sensors, and other electronic components.
- Work with Raspberry Pi and similar hardware platforms.
- Design electrical schematics and custom PCBs, including carrier boards, interface boards, and power circuits.
- Create PCB layouts using KiCad or comparable EDA tools.
- Develop reliable power distribution and connectivity, including voltage levels, current budgets, protection, and thermal behaviour.
- Assemble, solder, bring up, test, and debug hardware prototypes.
- Troubleshoot hardware using a multimeter, oscilloscope, bench power supply, and logic analyser.
- Work with GPIO, I2C, SPI, UART, USB, and other hardware interfaces.
- Prepare BOMs, fabrication and assembly files, wiring diagrams, and test procedures.
- Coordinate PCB manufacturing and assembly.
- Perform hardware bring-up, debugging, and systematic fault-finding.
- Collaborate with mechanical and software engineers to resolve integration issues.
- Improve hardware reliability, cost efficiency, maintainability, and serviceability.
What we are looking for
- Proven hands-on experience building, assembling, and troubleshooting electronic devices.
- Personal or commercial hardware projects that you can explain and demonstrate.
- Strong understanding of analogue and digital circuit fundamentals.
- Experience selecting electronic components and working confidently with datasheets.
- Experience creating schematics and PCB layouts.
- Understanding of footprints, grounding, decoupling, and electrical/design-rule checks.
- Practical experience with Raspberry Pi or similar platforms.
- Experience working with microcontrollers and hardware interfaces such as GPIO, I2C, SPI, UART, and USB.
- Confident soldering skills and basic SMD rework experience.
- Strong troubleshooting and systematic fault-finding skills.
- Ability to write simple test code or scripts to validate hardware functionality.
Formal commercial experience is not the only thing we value. If you have built your own electronics, robotics, or connected-device projects, designed PCBs, worked with amateur radio, or have a strong maker background, we would be very interested in hearing from you.
Nice to have
- Experience with microphones, speakers, and audio circuits.
- Battery charging and protection circuits.
- ESP32 or STM32.
- Embedded Linux.
- EMC/ESD-aware hardware design.
- Small-batch production experience.
- Experience developing test fixtures.
- Practical experience in robotics, IoT, or connected devices.
