About us

PettersonApps is a Ukrainian outsourcing software engineering company with offices in Uzhhorod and Drohobych.

For more than 10 years, we have been delivering software solutions for clients from 20+ countries, including Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the UK, and the USA.

Our teams have successfully delivered 300+ projects across different domains, including web and mobile applications, backend solutions, and software for digital media players.

We are constantly growing our engineering expertise and are looking for an experienced Senior Hardware Engineer to join our team and take ownership of hardware development across challenging embedded projects.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Hardware Engineer who can take ownership of hardware development — from requirements and circuit architecture to prototypes, testing, and production.

This role is a great fit for an engineer who enjoys working hands-on with electronics, making architectural decisions, debugging real hardware, and taking responsibility for the technical outcome.

In addition to hands-on hardware development, you will participate in technical discovery and presales activities, help evaluate project feasibility and scope, contribute to technical estimations, and support solution design for new client opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electronic circuits for embedded and connected devices;
  • Define hardware architecture based on product requirements;
  • Select electronic components considering technical requirements, availability, cost, and reliability;
  • Create and maintain schematics and PCB designs, primarily using Altium Designer;
  • Design multi-layer PCBs and ensure manufacturability and reliability of the design;
  • Perform PCB layout, component placement, routing, and design reviews;
  • Work with analog and digital electronics, power supply circuits, interfaces, and microcontroller-based systems;
  • Develop and validate prototypes from initial concept to functional hardware;
  • Perform hardware bring-up, testing, debugging, and troubleshooting;
  • Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, power supplies, and other laboratory equipment;
  • Analyze hardware failures and perform root-cause analysis;
  • Review PCB designs and technical solutions, identifying potential risks before production;
  • Work with PCB manufacturers and component suppliers when required;
  • Participate in hardware design decisions and technical discussions with the team;
  • Contribute to improving hardware development processes and engineering standards;
  • Mentor less experienced hardware engineers and share technical knowledge;
  • Participate in both long-term product development and outsourced client projects.

What We Expect

  • 5+ years of professional experience in Hardware or Electronics Engineering;
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital electronics;
  • Solid experience designing electronic circuits for embedded systems;
  • Strong practical experience with Altium Designer or a comparable professional PCB design tool;
  • Experience designing multi-layer PCBs from schematic to manufacturing;
  • Strong understanding of PCB design principles, signal routing, grounding, power distribution, and EMC/EMI considerations;
  • Experience selecting electronic components and evaluating their technical specifications;
  • Hands-on experience with microcontrollers and embedded hardware;
  • Good understanding of hardware interfaces and communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, USB, etc.;
  • Experience with power management, DC/DC converters, LDOs, battery-powered systems, or similar areas;
  • Strong practical experience with hardware bring-up and debugging;
  • Confident use of laboratory equipment: oscilloscope, multimeter, logic analyzer, power supply, electronic load, etc.;
  • Ability to independently read and interpret datasheets, application notes, reference designs, and electrical schematics;
  • Experience preparing BOM, Gerber files, manufacturing and assembly documentation, and other technical documentation;
  • Understanding of the hardware development lifecycle from prototype to production;
  • Experience with Git or other version-control systems used for engineering projects and documentation;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • High level of ownership, responsibility, initiative, and attention to detail.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working closely with Embedded Software / Firmware teams during product development;
  • Experience with embedded Linux-based hardware;
  • Knowledge of RF design and wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi, BLE, Zigbee, or Thread;
  • Experience with high-speed digital design and signal integrity;
  • Knowledge of EMC/EMI testing and certification requirements;
  • Experience designing low-power or battery-operated devices;
  • Experience with 3D CAD tools such as Fusion 360 or SolidWorks;
  • Basic or intermediate programming skills in C/C++ or Python;
  • Experience with hardware testing automation;
  • Experience preparing products for mass production;
  • Experience communicating directly with clients and participating in technical discussions;
  • Previous experience mentoring engineers or leading hardware development initiatives.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation with regular salary reviews based on your performance and professional growth;
  • Opportunity to work on interesting and technically challenging IT projects for international clients;
  • Flexible working format — remote or from our offices in Uzhhorod and Drohobych;
  • Flexible schedule with an 8-hour working day;
  • 20 days of paid vacation with the possibility to split the vacation according to your needs;
  • National holidays;
  • Official employment and transparent cooperation conditions;
  • Diia City resident and critically important enterprise status;
  • Friendly and supportive team with experienced engineers;
  • Team building activities, Happy Fridays, corporate gifts, and charity initiatives;
  • Comfortable working environment and everything you need to work effectively;
  • Opportunities for professional development and career growth within the company.
