PioGroup Software is a team of professionals passionate about building reliable digital products. We are looking for an experienced Principal / Lead AI/ML Scientist — Pharma & Medical Imaging.

This is not a generalist AI Engineer or entry-level Data Science role. We are looking for someone who has already worked with AI/ML in a Pharma, CRO, Clinical Research or MedTech environment and is comfortable making technical decisions around data, ML architecture, reproducibility and governance.

What you’ll work on

You will contribute to the design and assessment of AI/ML solutions used in a regulated pharmaceutical / clinical research environment.

The scope includes:

integration and processing of Whole-Slide Image (WSI) and medical imaging data;
AI/ML architecture and technical assessments;
data quality, governance, versioning and traceability;
de-identification of medical imaging data;
reproducible ML research workflows;
model and dataset lineage;
Python-based Data Science and Machine Learning;
evaluation of technical approaches, risks and implementation options.

This role requires someone who can work beyond model development itself and understand the full lifecycle of ML research and data in a regulated environment.

What we expect

We are looking for a senior specialist with:

5+ years of hands-on Data Science / AI/ML experience specifically within Pharma, CRO, Clinical Research or MedTech;
strong commercial experience with Python;
solid hands-on knowledge of pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn and the broader Python Data Science ecosystem;
strong understanding of classical Machine Learning approaches, including:
- classification;
- regression;
- clustering;
- anomaly detection;
- optimization;
practical experience with AWS and/or Google Cloud;
experience working with data quality, reproducibility, traceability or ML governance;
ability to evaluate ML architectures and communicate technical trade-offs;
MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Computational Biology or a related technical/scientific field;
excellent English and the ability to clearly communicate complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

We are primarily interested in candidates who have already owned complex ML initiatives, made architecture-level decisions and worked with scientific or regulated data, rather than specialists focused only on implementing predefined models.
