We’re looking for a mobile developer to build an offline-first app for field data collection in places without reliable internet: nature reserves, farms, remote areas.
What you’ll do
- Build a mobile app with an offline-first architecture (local storage on SQLite and/or WatermelonDB with custom conflict resolution logic)
- Design and implement the offline sync mechanism (queues, retries, partial conflicts)
- Integrate camera and GPS for capturing field observations (photos, geotags, collection metadata)
- Ensure data integrity: link every record to its source, timestamp, location, and collection method
- Optimize for weak/no connectivity and limited battery conditions
What matters to us
- Experience building apps where offline is the primary scenario, not a fallback
- Hands-on experience with SQLite and/or WatermelonDB
- Understanding of conflict resolution approaches (last-write-wins, CRDT, merge strategies, etc.) and ability to implement custom logic for the use case
- Experience working with camera and geolocation on mobile platforms
- Understanding of field-condition constraints: unstable connectivity, power efficiency, reliable data persistence
Nice to have
- Familiarity with field data collection tools: ODK, ArcGIS Field Maps, Fulcrum, CommCare
- Experience with geospatial/GIS tasks
- Experience in projects related to ecology, sustainability, or impact investing
IMPORTANT
Resumes (NOT COVER LETTER) must clearly list all technologies used (language/framework, local database, camera/GPS libraries, etc.). Resumes without a specific tech stack listed will not be considered.
