Junior QA Engineer

You build quality in from the first step instead of catching defects at the end. When you spot a gap, you point it out and hand the task back to the developer — you help them clear the quality bar, not do the work for them. You know that a green pipeline with no tests is the greenest lie there is: green should mean verified. You think in edge cases and worst-case scenarios, not just the happy path. And you work as a full member of the team — estimating together, joining standups, and flagging blockers early.
At this level, working under mentorship, you:
- Write and read automated tests, and check coverage of critical paths and edge cases with guidance
- Keep CI gates green in your area and don’t let failures pile up in the background
- Do targeted manual passes on the riskiest flows with a fresh eye
- Understand the Definition of Done and drive story-level checks to green
Hard skills: manual test design and execution · basic automation (Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium) · Jira or similar · basic API testing (Postman) · basic SQL for data checks · familiarity with CI/CD (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions)
Middle QA Engineer
2+ years experience
Same mindset as above — quality built in from the start, edge-case thinking, honest signals, full team ownership — plus the independence to run with it.
You:
- Decide for yourself which business-critical features and edge cases need automated coverage
- Own the whole verification system — CI gates, quality dashboard, smoke tests, monitoring — and keep it an honest go/no-go signal for release
- Choose where to point a fresh eye, prioritizing by risk before each release
- Coach developers on test cases and automation up front, raising the craft bar across the team
- Put your QA signature on the DoD: the story’s checks are in place and green
Hard skills: automation frameworks (Playwright, Cypress, or similar) — design and upkeep · CI/CD ownership (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions) · API testing and automation (Postman, REST-assured) · SQL for validation · monitoring/observability (Sentry, Grafana) · defining test strategy and coverage plans
