POSITION SUMMARY

The Middle QA Engineer is a key member of our agile development team responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of our software products: the Clearion platform for utility vegetation and field-work management built on ArcGIS maps, its administration application, and the backend API that serves both. As QA Engineer, you will work closely with software developers, product owners, and quality control engineers to design, develop, execute, and maintain comprehensive test strategies and frameworks. Your role will combine manual testing with building out our end-to-end automation suite, written in TypeScript with WebdriverIO and run in CI on every pull request and release, ensuring the efficient and timely delivery of high-quality software solutions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers and product owners, to review user stories, features, and epics, and define acceptance and testing criteria before development starts.
  • Participate in sprint planning and estimation sessions and independently determine the testing scope and effort required.
  • Design, develop, and maintain manual and automated test suites, test cases (including BDD/Gherkin scenarios), and test scripts.
  • Execute manual testing, including exploratory, functional, and regression testing, to validate software functionality and identify defects.
  • Develop and maintain automated end-to-end tests in the existing framework, following its conventions, and submit them through code review.
  • Convert manual regression and smoke test cycles into automated coverage.
  • Monitor automated test runs in CI, triage failures (product defect, test issue, or environment issue), and drive each to resolution.
  • Reproduce defects and work closely with software developers to investigate, debug, and verify fixes, ensuring the delivery of high-quality software products.
  • Report and document test results and defects with clear reproduction steps and evidence, following established processes and guidelines.
  • Assess release readiness and communicate quality risks to the team before each release.
  • Track and analyze testing metrics, such as automation coverage, test stability, and defects identified, and use them to improve overall testing effectiveness.
  • Contribute to continuously improving testing processes, tools, and methodologies, including the automation framework and CI pipelines, to enhance software quality and efficiency.
  • Share knowledge with developers and junior QA team members, and review their test code.
  • Support the QC team members in achieving product release delivery goals.
  • Stay updated with industry best practices, emerging trends, and new technologies related to software testing.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in software testing of web applications, covering both manual testing and UI test automation.
  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test scripts (manual and automated).
  • Hands-on experience writing UI test automation in code with at least one mainstream tool (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, WebdriverIO, or Selenium).
  • Solid understanding of testing methodologies and automation practices, including Page Object Model, stable selector strategies, waits, and diagnosing flaky tests.
  • Proficient in manual testing techniques, functional testing, regression testing, and exploratory testing.
  • Familiarity with agile software development methodologies and CI/CD workflows.
  • Experience working with Git and pull-request code review.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • English at B2 (upper-intermediate) level or higher.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities with a team-oriented mindset.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience testing mobile applications across multiple platforms (iOS, Android, Windows), including validating data synchronization and offline workflows.
  • REST API testing (e.g., Postman or code), including creating and cleaning up test data through an API.
  • Test automation experience in TypeScript or JavaScript; experience with WebdriverIO and Mocha.
  • Test management in Zephyr Scale or similar tools (e.g., TestRail, Xray), including writing BDD/Gherkin scenarios.
  • CI pipelines (e.g., Bitbucket Pipelines), Docker, Selenium Grid, and test reporting with Allure.
  • Testing React applications with complex UI (data grids, virtualized tables, autocomplete inputs) and map-based or GIS applications (e.g., ArcGIS).
  • Ability to write basic SQL queries for data validation and test verification.
  • Experience building or significantly extending a test automation framework.
