Engagement Type: Outstaff / Long-term dedicated position

Location / Work Format: Remote (Collaboration with a multicultural team in Dubai, UAE time zone)

Duration: 6–12 months initial launch & remediation phase + ongoing long-term platform ownership

Project Overview

Audit, validate, customize, and launch a regulated digital-asset exchange & broker-dealer platform using Shift Markets white-label capabilities and custom integrations.

• Scope: Onboarding/KYC, AML/KYT, fiat/crypto funding, wallets/custody, ledger, spot order execution, liquidity, fee engines, withdrawals, reconciliation, back-office, reporting, and iOS/mobile clients.
• Compliance Boundaries: Operations strictly within approved exchange & broker-dealer permissions. Derivatives, leverage, yield, or staking require explicit written Compliance approval.

Responsibilities & Probation Focus

• Probation Primary Task: Smoothly transition responsibility, architecture, and domain knowledge from the Interim CTO.
• Audit, evolve, and take ownership of the Shift Markets API-based white-label platform and custom backend integrations.
• Architect and maintain distributed event-driven systems, REST/WebSocket APIs, SQL/immutable ledgers, cloud containers, CI/CD, and observability.
• Oversee integrations for custody/wallets, blockchain nodes, liquidity, fiat payments, and back-office/compliance tooling.
• Ensure VARA control evidence readiness, manage operational approval workflows, and escalate material launch risks.
• Lead, mentor, and guide a multicultural engineering team (~25—30 members).

Requirements

Must-have:

• 10+ years in software engineering.
• 3+ years architecting production digital-asset exchanges, brokerages, custody platforms, or controlled financial systems.
• Tech Stack: Java/Kotlin (or equivalent backend depth), distributed/event-driven systems, REST/WebSocket APIs, SQL & auditable ledger design, Cloud/Containers, CI/CD, Observability, Secure SDLC.
• Domain: Spot order execution, wallets/custody, blockchain confirmations, liquidity, fiat/crypto payments, reconciliation.
• Ability to quickly learn: Shift Markets modules/APIs; client custody, liquidity, compliance, and payment providers; internal corporate standards; VARA control evidence and operational approval workflows.
• Soft Skills: Hands-on technical leadership, clear/concise communication (engineers to C-level), evidence-based decision making, constructive challenge, pragmatism, ability to mentor senior engineers.
• English: B2—C2 (Advanced).

• Direct Shift Markets platform experience.
• Fireblocks, Cobo, or comparable custody exposure.
• Sumsub (KYC) and Travel Rule tooling.
• FIX protocol and high-frequency WebSocket market data streaming.
• Mobile client security awareness.
• Direct exposure to VARA (Dubai) or MiCA (EU) frameworks.
