Job Description:
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field plus heavy experience in low-level network programming.
- Mastery of Rust (for DPDK tre_flow), and Go for high-performance networking software.
- Solid understanding of Linux network stack internals, socket layers, and packet processing.
Network feature development.
Nice to Have Skills
Experience porting custom network daemons (Goblin, Comet) to new CPU architectures.
Job Responsibilities:
- Port internal networking daemons and tools (Goblin, Comet, golinject) to run natively on ARM64 host environments.
- Local Environment & Stack Setup: Stand up and maintain a local development environment running the entire Akamai Compute (Linode) stack (e.g., running on a single VM owned by the developer).
- Debugging & ARM Porting: Proactively identify and debug complex issues across the software stack (including VMs, VM disks, and networking), and port existing software stack components to the ARM architecture.
- Network Feature Development: Develop and enhance networking capabilities, including adding support for protocols (such as DHCPv6) into networking daemons and offloading network stack processing into NICs.
- Performance & Profiling: Conduct performance tuning and packet-throughput profiling on high-speed network interfaces.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Proactively flag identified issues and collaborate with other engineering teams to drive resolutions.
Department/Project Description:
Seeking a Mid-Level Software Engineer to join the Platform Networking Team. The team builds low-level networking software, driver integrations, and custom daemons powering our data center network fabric. You will port network daemons and enable next-generation SmartNIC and NIC hardware support on our new ARM server fleet.
