Core Stack: Async Rust (tokio), K8s Controllers (kube-rs), Zero-Copy gRPC (tonic/prost), Bare-Metal Provisioning (iPXE/Redfish), DPU Acceleration (BlueField/DOCA), NOS & Fabrics (SONiC, NVUE, BGP/EVPN)
Mirantis builds open-standard, bare-metal infrastructure platforms for modern AI clouds and high-density GPU clusters. We focus on the low-level orchestration layer — connecting bare-metal compute, programmable network fabrics, and control planes to run scale-out AI training and inference.
We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer with deep Rust mastery to own the architecture and execution of our core control plane microservices.
The Engineering Challenge
- Control Plane Architecture: Architect high-throughput microservices and custom Kubernetes operators written natively in Rust using kube-rs and CRD-driven reconciliation loops.
- Silicon & Fabric Integration: Develop low-level control modules interfacing directly with DPUs (NVIDIA BlueField/DOCA), open network OSs (SONiC, NVUE), and bare-metal boot infrastructure.
- Deterministic Systems Design: Author schema-evolved gRPC contracts (tonic/prost) and zero-copy serialization layers to ensure strict runtime correctness at scale.
- Distributed Diagnostics: Instrument polyglot systems end-to-end with OpenTelemetry (OTel) traces to perform systematic root-cause analysis across distributed state machines.
Technical Profile
- 3+ Years Production Systems Rust: Direct experience building high-throughput async systems (tokio), lock-free concurrency, and zero-copy serialization—not basic web API wrappers.
- 5+ Years Compiled Languages: Solid background engineering complex, distributed systems in C/C++, Go, Java, or Scala across large, production codebases.
- Low-Level Infrastructure Experience: Hands-on work in bare-metal provisioning (PXE/iPXE, Redfish/BMC), DPU architectures, datacenter networking (BGP, EVPN, VXLAN), or native K8s controllers.
- Engineering Discipline: High standards for unit and integration testing, clean API contract design, and thorough peer code reviews.
Engineering Culture
- Low-Level Systems Focus: Solve non-trivial state reconciliation, kernel networking, and hardware interface challenges at the core platform layer
- Upstream-First Development: We build on open standards, and contributing code back to upstream projects is a core expectation, not a side activity
- Cross-Functional Fluency: Deeply own your core focus while maintaining the practical knowledge needed to review code, evaluate specs, and collaborate across adjacent systems (kernel networking, storage, GPU fabrics).
