Software Engineer

About the project

We are looking for a Senior Shopify Developer to join a long-term e-commerce project for an international brand in the music and entertainment industry.

The project includes multiple online stores supporting merchandise sales, special releases, pre-orders, promotional campaigns, and limited product launches across different markets.

This is not a typical Shopify theme development role. The main focus will be on backend functionality, custom applications, API integrations, and communication between Shopify and external business systems. You should be comfortable working beyond the standard Shopify ecosystem and developing standalone services where necessary.

You will collaborate with a distributed engineering and product team based across Europe. The work schedule is primarily aligned with European business hours.

What You’ll Get to Do

• Develop and maintain backend functionality for Shopify-based e-commerce solutions;
• Build custom Shopify applications, extensions, and supporting services;
• Integrate Shopify with internal platforms and third-party systems;
• Work with Shopify Admin API, Storefront API, GraphQL, REST APIs, and webhooks;
• Design and implement event-driven data exchange between Shopify and external services;
• Develop backend services using Node.js and TypeScript or Python;
• Implement authentication and authorization flows, including OAuth;
• Integrate e-commerce solutions with ERP, OMS, WMS, PIM, CRM, payment, fulfillment, and logistics platforms;
• Support multi-store and multi-market Shopify environments;
• Prepare e-commerce systems for major launches, pre-orders, and periods of increased traffic;
• Troubleshoot production issues and improve the stability and performance of existing solutions;
• Customize Shopify themes and storefront components when required;
• Collaborate with engineering, product, design, marketing, and e-commerce teams.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of commercial software development experience;
• Strong hands-on experience with Shopify development;
• Proven experience developing custom Shopify apps and backend integrations;
• Commercial backend development experience with Node.js and TypeScript or Python;
• Strong knowledge of Shopify Admin API and Storefront API;
• Experience working with GraphQL and REST APIs;
• Practical experience with webhooks and event-driven integrations;
• Understanding of OAuth and third-party authentication flows;
• Experience integrating Shopify with external business systems;
• Good understanding of databases and cloud infrastructure;
• Knowledge of Shopify products, collections, variants, metafields, and metaobjects;
• Experience working with Git and modern development workflows;
• Ability to investigate and resolve production issues independently;
• Upper-intermediate English proficiency or above;
• Ukrainian citizenship and current residence outside Ukraine, preferably in a European country.

Shopify Storefront Experience

Although this is a backend-focused position, you should also be comfortable working with the Shopify storefront when necessary:

• Practical knowledge of Liquid;
• Strong JavaScript skills;
• Solid HTML and CSS knowledge;
• Experience customizing Shopify themes, templates, and reusable sections;
• Understanding of responsive development and cross-browser compatibility;
• Familiarity with storefront performance optimization and technical SEO.

Will Be a Plus

• Experience with Shopify Functions and app extensions;
• Experience with React;
• Practical AWS experience;
• Understanding of microservice architecture;
• Experience building solutions for high-traffic e-commerce platforms;
• Experience with international, multi-market, or multi-store environments;
• Knowledge of conversion optimization and checkout flows;
• Experience working with D2C, merchandise, entertainment, fashion, or music-related products;
• Experience implementing storefront designs from Figma.
