Software Engineer

Outstaff Hiring: Remote — Contract (Full-time, long-term)

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join a growing product engineering team working on a market-leading financial crime investigation platform used by financial institutions and global companies.

This is a hands-on engineering role with an approximately 80/20 backend-to-frontend split. You will build new systems and features, modernize existing functionality, and contribute to the architecture of a complex SaaS platform.

System design is a key part of the role and will be an important focus during the interview process.

You will work in a small, fast-moving company, so we are looking for engineers who are comfortable with ownership, direct communication, and getting things done without unnecessary bureaucracy.

What You’ll Do

• Design and build scalable solutions across backend, frontend, and data architecture.
• Develop and maintain backend services using Go/Golang, with exposure to Python and Node.js.
• Work with React and TypeScript on the frontend when required.
• Work with databases and search technologies including PostgreSQL, Neo4j, and Elasticsearch.
• Build and maintain containerized production workloads on AWS.
• Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions.
• Contribute to technical RFCs and system design decisions.
• Troubleshoot distributed production systems and identify performance bottlenecks.
• Analyze SQL queries, database performance, application waits, and network latency.
• Take ownership of the code you deliver and participate in an on-call rotation.
• Mentor engineers and share technical knowledge across the team.
• Communicate directly with internal stakeholders and, where required, clients and their development teams.

Must Have

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong commercial experience with Go / Golang.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
• Experience with at least one scripting language, such as Python.
• Strong system design and software architecture skills.
• Solid experience with AWS, including containerized workloads on managed services.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills in distributed backend systems.
• Ability to contribute across the stack when required.
• Strong written and spoken English and excellent communication skills.
• Comfortable working in a small, product-focused company with a high level of autonomy and ownership.
• Degree in Computer Science or a closely related field.

Nice to Have

• Experience with React / TypeScript.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, Neo4j, and/or Elasticsearch.
• Previous experience in financial services, fintech, payments, or RegTech.
• Some understanding of how software is used inside large financial institutions.
• Experience working in an enterprise SaaS environment.
• Good understanding of UI/UX principles.

What We’re Looking For

We are particularly interested in engineers who combine strong backend development with excellent system design skills.

You should be comfortable working in a smaller company where engineers have significant ownership and are expected to make practical technical decisions. At the same time, some exposure to large financial institutions or similarly complex enterprise environments would be beneficial.

Excellent English and communication skills are essential, as the role may involve working directly with clients and client development teams.
