About the Role

Our client is a leading European company providing solutions for product, material, and logistics cycles, with a strong focus on recycling and sustainability. Their products help businesses manage recyclable materials responsibly, improve sustainability performance, and reduce the use of primary resources.

We are looking for a Lead Engineer to join the product team and play an active role in shaping and building an enterprise multi-tenant SaaS platform.

This is more than a pure backend development role. You will work closely with Product Managers, Product Owners, and Product Designers to understand customer and business problems, challenge assumptions, explore technical options, and turn product ideas into effective solutions.

You will have ownership not only of how something is built, but also the opportunity to influence what should be built and why.

What You’ll Do

Design and develop complex web applications and services using PHP, Laravel, SQL, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
Work directly with Product and Design to turn business and customer needs into practical technical solutions
Contribute to product decisions by bringing engineering perspective, technical constraints, risks, and alternative solutions to the discussion
Challenge requirements constructively and help the team find the right balance between user value, business impact, technical complexity, and time to market
Take ownership of the technical implementation of new product initiatives after a comprehensive onboarding phase
Independently break down complex problems, propose solutions, and drive them through implementation
Develop and maintain backend applications and services
Contribute to frontend development where it makes sense
Continuously improve existing systems, architecture, code quality, and developer experience
Develop and enhance Laravel-based logistics applications and Magento-based web shop solutions
Collaborate with the wider product and engineering team to continuously improve the product

What We’re Looking For

Must Have

8+ years of professional experience with PHP and Laravel
Strong experience building and maintaining backend applications
Experience working with multi-tenant SaaS platforms
Solid relational database skills, particularly MariaDB/MySQL
Experience working closely with Product Managers, Product Owners, Designers, or other non-engineering stakeholders
A strong product mindset — you care about the problem being solved, not only the technical implementation
Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions and explain technical trade-offs in a way that different stakeholders can understand
Comfortable questioning requirements and proposing alternatives when you see a better solution
Structured, analytical, and independent approach to problem-solving
Strong written and spoken English

Nice to Have

Experience influencing product decisions or contributing to product discovery
Experience using product data, analytics, customer feedback, experiments, or other evidence to support technical/product decisions
Magento 2.x experience
JavaScript/React experience
Experience working in cross-functional product teams
