Tech Lead
Funteron is an AI-powered sports engagement platform that enables trusted media brands to offer embedded odds comparison and betting experiences across multiple licensed sportsbook operators.
We are opening an office in Lviv, Ukraine and building our first team here.
This is a foundational leadership hire for our Lviv engineering team to shape architectural direction. You’ll help establish technical standards, shape the team’s ways of working, and play a key role in scaling sportsbook engineering. The Senior Tech Lead is responsible for the technical delivery and day‑to‑day leadership of engineering squads working on our sportsbook affiliate platform. You`ll own key services and features across the bet lifecycle (pricing, bet placement, settlement, risk, account/wallet interactions), ensure high code quality and reliability, and act as the primary technical partner to product and operations.
Key responsibilities
- Own technical delivery of sportsbook features and services, from design and estimation through implementation, testing, release, and production support.
- Lead and mentor a multi‑disciplinary squad of engineers (backend, frontend, QA, DevOps) working on the sports betting domain.
- Translate product and operation requirements into clear technical designs, breaking work into deliverable increments with sensible sequencing and dependencies.
- Design and review APIs and integrations for pricing, markets, trading tools, data providers, risk engines, and account/wallet systems.
- Drive code quality and engineering practices, including code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and documentation.
- Monitor and improve performance and reliability of sportsbook services, especially around high‑traffic events and peak load.
- Coordinate incident response for sportsbook issues, leading technical investigations, root‑cause analysis, and follow‑up remediation.
- Collaborate closely with trading, risk, operations, and compliance to ensure solutions meet regulatory, operational, and risk requirements.
- Champion technical standards and architectural direction coming from principal engineers/architects, and ensure they are applied consistently within the squad.
- Identify and manage technical debt, proposing pragmatic refactorings and platform improvements as part of the roadmap.
- Support cross‑team initiatives, such as new market launches, migrations, or performance tuning projects across the wider platform.
Required experience
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant time in a lead or senior role.
- Hands‑on experience in sports betting, trading platforms, fintech or high‑throughput transactional systems (e.g., real‑time financial or gaming systems).
- Strong programming skills in at least one relevant backend language (e.g., Java, C#, Go, Kotlin, Node.js/TypeScript). We use Java 17 and Java 25
- Experience building and operating distributed services and APIs in a cloud environment (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Solid understanding of bet lifecycle concepts: markets and selections, pricing/odds, bet placement, settlement, cash‑out, and risk limits.
- Proven track record of leading small teams or squads, planning work, and delivering against roadmaps.
- Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and logging in production systems.
- Comfortable working with product managers, traders, and operations to make trade‑offs between scope, performance, and complexity.
Key skills and behaviours
- Strong technical leadership: sets direction, makes clear decisions, and creates alignment within the squad.
- Excellent communication skills; able to explain complex technical solutions to product, trading, and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Hands‑on and comfortable jumping into code, debugging, and pairing with engineers when needed.
- Pragmatic and delivery‑focused, able to balance long‑term quality with short‑term business needs.
- A strong sense of ownership and accountability for production systems and customer impact.
- Contribute to hiring and technical interviewing as we continue building the engineering presence in Lviv.
