Automation QA Engineer

Our client is a well-established American company with a long history in navigation. Today it builds connected technology for the transportation industry: truck GPS tablets, mobile apps, and a web platform for fleet management. The products help professional drivers and businesses move more safely and efficiently.
We are looking for a strong AQA Engineer to join an experienced team working on the client’s product ecosystem. The work covers the web platform and related services, with real-world impact on thousands of drivers and fleets across North America.
Required experience/skills:
- 4+ years of experience in software QA, including strong hands-on experience testing mobile applications on iOS and Android;
- Strong experience with both manual and automated testing;
- Hands-on experience designing, writing, and maintaining automated tests;
- Strong knowledge of Python and experience with pytest or similar test automation frameworks;
- Ability to write clean, maintainable, and reusable automation code;
- Good understanding of OOP principles and basic software architecture concepts;
- Strong understanding of test design techniques, exploratory testing, regression testing, and risk-based testing;
- Experience defining test strategy and selecting appropriate test coverage based on product and release risks;
- Strong REST API testing experience, including authentication, request/response validation, error handling, and API workflows;
- Good understanding of HTTP methods, status codes, headers, JSON, authentication mechanisms, and client-server architecture;
- Ability to investigate issues using logs, API responses, browser/device debugging tools, and backend information;
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines;
- Experience with Git and modern CI/CD systems such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps;
- Experience working with test management systems such as TestRail, Xray, Zephyr, or similar;
- Experience with Jira or similar issue-tracking systems;
- Ability to review requirements, identify gaps and ambiguities, challenge assumptions, and define test scenarios before development is completed;
- Strong understanding of release testing, regression strategy, defect prioritization, and production risk assessment;
- Ability to communicate quality risks clearly to developers, product managers, and customers;
- Experience using AI tools to support requirements analysis, test design, debugging, automation, or QA process improvement;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Upper-Intermediate or higher English
Leadership & Process Ownership:
- Experience improving or establishing QA processes at a project or company level;
- Ability to define minimum QA standards across multiple projects or teams;
- Experience mentoring QA engineers and reviewing their testing approach;
- Ability to evaluate QA effectiveness across multiple projects without micromanaging individual testers;
- Experience performing root-cause analysis for production defects and improving processes based on findings;
- Ability to balance quality, business priorities, delivery timelines, and release risks;
- Experience collaborating with engineering and product teams to introduce shift-left testing practices.
Would be a plus:
- Experience with mobile UI automation;
- Experience with Playwright, Selenium, Appium, XCTest, Espresso, or similar tools;
- Knowledge of Docker;
- Experience testing applications with complex backend integrations;
- Experience with performance, security, or accessibility testing;
- Experience setting up automation infrastructure from scratch.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze product requirements and identify risks, gaps, ambiguities, and edge cases before development is completed;
- Define appropriate test strategy and coverage for new features and releases;
- Perform functional, exploratory, regression, integration, API, and mobile testing;
- Create and maintain meaningful test documentation, including test cases, checklists, test plans, and regression suites where appropriate;
- Design, implement, and maintain automated tests;
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and monitor their reliability;
- Investigate defects using logs, APIs, application behavior, and backend data;
- Report defects with clear reproduction steps, impact, severity, and supporting evidence;
- Perform root-cause analysis of escaped production defects and propose process improvements;
- Assess release quality and clearly communicate risks to the team;
- Collaborate closely with developers, product managers, business analysts, and customers;
- Continuously improve QA practices, tooling, automation coverage, and testing efficiency;
- Depending on seniority, mentor QA engineers and contribute to establishing consistent QA standards across projects.
