Backend Engineer
We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to help develop a European SaaS platform for social media content creation, scheduling, and publishing.
You will work on scalable backend services using Node.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, and Redis, with a focus on API development, background processing, asynchronous workflows, and third-party integrations.
The platform incorporates AI-powered functionality through OpenAI and Anthropic APIs, as well as integrations with external social media publishing services.
The role involves direct collaboration with a Netherlands-based client and a distributed European development team, with regular communication during Dutch business hours.

Experience
- 5+ years of professional backend development experience
- Strong expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript
- Experience designing and developing production-grade REST APIs and backend services
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL, including database design and optimization
- Experience with modern ORMs, such as Drizzle ORM or similar solutions
- Practical experience with Redis
- Experience implementing background processing, queues, and asynchronous workflows
- Familiarity with Docker and containerized applications
- Experience integrating third-party APIs and external services
- Strong understanding of scalable SaaS architectures
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of features, and communicate directly with clients
- Availability for regular collaboration during Dutch/European business hours
- Nice to have: Experience with Hono, Supabase, or BullMQ
- Nice to have: Practical experience integrating OpenAI API and/or Anthropic API
- Nice to have: Experience developing AI-powered SaaS features
- Nice to have: Experience with social media APIs, publishing platforms, or content management workflows

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js and TypeScript
- Build and enhance APIs and business logic for social media content creation, scheduling, and publishing
- Design, maintain, and optimize PostgreSQL databases and data models
- Implement background processing, queues, and asynchronous workflows using Redis and related technologies
- Integrate AI-powered functionality through OpenAI and Anthropic APIs
- Develop and maintain integrations with third-party services and social media publishing platforms
- Troubleshoot and optimize backend performance, reliability, and scalability
- Participate in architectural discussions, technical planning, and solution design
- Collaborate directly with the client and development team during daily stand-ups
- Contribute to deployment and operational workflows using Docker and cloud platforms
- Work within Jira-based development processes and take ownership of assigned features
