This position is with a US-based software company providing custom development and AI implementation for North American clients. The team builds and maintains production software, including AI-enabled systems, and works in long-term client engagements. Team members operate as part of an internal, distributed team and collaborate directly with client stakeholders.
About the Role
We are looking for a Middle Python Backend Developer with 3+ years of commercial experience to join our backend engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing robust backend services, integrating third-party APIs, managing AWS infrastructure, and participating in direct client communications. The ideal candidate can showcase 1–2 production projects, clearly articulate their personal contributions and solutions to technical challenges, confidently debug production incidents, and comfortably leverage modern AI tools like Claude Code in their daily workflow.
What You Will Do
- Backend Development: Develop, maintain, and scale high-performance backend services, build REST APIs, and integrate third-party services and AWS components.
- Optimization & Security: Ensure optimal application performance, code quality, system stability, and data security.
- Production Support: Debug and resolve production issues, analyze logs, and perform root-cause analysis during incidents.
- Client Interaction: Participate in client calls for requirements clarification, technical demos, task estimation, and explaining technical decisions.
Requirements
- Experience: 3+ years of commercial Python backend development experience.
- Production Track Record: 1–2 projects brought to production and supported post-release, with the ability to explain your specific role, obstacles faced, and technical solutions implemented.
- Core Python: Deep knowledge of Python 3 and async/await programming paradigms.
- Frameworks: Strong hands-on experience with FastAPI (or solid commercial background in Django/Flask with a strong readiness to transition to FastAPI).
- API Design: Clean REST API design, authentication, and authorization mechanisms.
- Databases: Solid experience with relational databases like PostgreSQL or MySQL (schema design, indexing, migrations, and basic query optimization), along with exposure to NoSQL databases.
- Cloud & DevOps Basics: Practical experience with AWS core services (S3, EC2, or Lambda), Docker, and Git.
- Testing: Writing unit and integration tests using pytest.
- Queues & Caching: Hands-on experience with Redis and queue systems (Celery, SQS).
- Incident Resolution: Hands-on experience debugging in production environments using logs, monitoring tools, and root cause analysis.
- AI Tools: Hands-on experience using Claude Code to accelerate development.
- Communication: Upper-Intermediate English level (B2+) or higher for seamless direct written and verbal communication with international clients.
Nice to Have
- Hands-on experience with DynamoDB.
- Experience with EventBridge and serverless architecture.
- Experience with LLM integrations (OpenAI API, LangChain / LangGraph).
- Commercial experience with Django.
- Experience setting up CI/CD pipelines.
