Backend Engineer

We are looking for a Senior PHP Developer to help develop and improve a logistics platform, including its backend services and web-based management panel.

This role is for an engineer who takes ownership of their work, makes well-reasoned technical decisions, and sees tasks through from clarifying requirements to implementation and verification. You will work with an existing codebase, build new features and integrations, and improve the platform’s reliability, performance, and maintainability.

We are Black River Express, a logistics company based in the United States, founded in 2025 and began delivering loads across USA and Canada.We specialize in dry and reefer freight transportation.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services using PHP 8.3+ and Laravel 11.
• Build and improve the management panel using Filament 3, Livewire 3, Blade, Alpine.js, and Tailwind CSS.
• Design and maintain REST APIs, authentication, authorization, and access controls.
• Integrate external services through APIs and webhooks.
• Design and evolve PostgreSQL database schemas, write migrations, and optimize queries and indexes.
• Implement background jobs, queues, scheduled tasks, caching, and real-time functionality.
• Write automated tests, participate in code reviews, and contribute to CI/CD workflows.
• Investigate production issues and address performance and reliability bottlenecks.
• Identify opportunities for improvement and propose practical, well-supported solutions.

Requirements

• Commercial experience with PHP 8.3+ and Laravel 11, including Eloquent, queues, and task scheduling.
• Hands-on experience with Filament 3, Livewire 3, Blade, Alpine.js, and Tailwind CSS.
• Strong PostgreSQL and SQL skills, including database design, migrations, transactions, indexing, and query optimization.
• Experience developing REST APIs, implementing authentication and authorization, and integrating third-party services and webhooks.
• Understanding of Redis, caching strategies, and WebSockets.
• Experience with automated testing, Git, code reviews, CI/CD, and production troubleshooting.
• Ability to navigate an existing codebase independently and deliver well-tested, maintainable solutions.
• Ability to make technical decisions, explain trade-offs, and take responsibility for the quality of the result.
• Clear, proactive communication about progress, challenges, and dependencies.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with logistics platforms, PostGIS, Google Maps or Google Sheets integrations, and S3-compatible storage.
• Experience with Flutter/Dart, BLoC, Firebase push notifications, and geolocation. Mobile development experience is optional.
• Experience using AI development tools while reviewing and validating the generated output.
• Experience integrating AI into email and document processing or workflow automation.
• Experience integrating IP telephony services such as RingCentral, Twilio, Asterisk, or similar platforms.
• Experience connecting CRM systems, email, and telephony through APIs and webhooks.
