Blockchain Engineer

We are launching a major new long-term initiative for a European financial-infrastructure client.

About the Project & Role

• Project Stage: Starting with a discovery and architecture phase, followed by active build.
• Duration: long-term
• Team Composition: You will be the foundational Lead Blockchain Engineer joining a core senior team (Backend, DevOps, QA, BA, Solution Architect, PM) scaling up to a team of 20+ specialists.
• Core Tech Stack: Solidity and/or Rust; Permissioned DLT (Hyperledger Fabric as the primary focus, alongside EVM, Besu, or Corda); Hardhat or Foundry; Slither / Mythril / Certora; DvP (likely via integration) and HTLC settlement patterns.
• Role Context: The client has a high-level vision of the platform, but you will act as a hands-on technical leader collaborating closely with our Solution Architect and BA during discovery, helping shape scope, and proactively raising and resolving ambiguities in unmapped requirements.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Experience: 5+ years of commercial software engineering experience, with a proven track record leading blockchain architectures.
• Technical Competencies:
  
  • Strong proficiency in Solidity and/or Rust.
  • Deep practical experience with Hyperledger Fabric (primary) and permissioned DLT / EVM ecosystems (Besu, Corda).
  • Hands-on experience with Hardhat or Foundry.
  • Familiarity with security and audit tooling (Slither / Mythril / Certora).
  • Knowledge of DvP (Delivery-versus-Payment, focusing on external payment integration) and HTLC settlement patterns.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools in smart contract development and review (AI-assisted coding, testing, audit preparation).
• Language Proficiency: Upper-Intermediate (B2/C1) or higher.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• ISO 20022 experience (strongly preferred for interoperability work).

Functional Duties & Responsibilities

• Build smart contracts for core settlement and traceability protocols.
• Build the orchestration layer (sequencing, state sync, failure isolation).
• Implement the DvP settlement module, handling compliance conditions and payment system integrations.
• Build the contract version registry and emergency suspension/rollback tooling (focused strictly on smart contract version rollbacks, not ledger transaction rollbacks).

Probationary Period Focus

• Proactively collect and refine requirements for the blockchain component of the project alongside the SA and BA.
• Drive architectural decisions and define the backlog for the blockchain domain during the discovery phase.
• Help bridge the gap between high-level client expectations and hands-on technical execution.

• Proactive mindset: ability to independently identify, raise, and solve unmapped technical or architectural requirements.
• Ability to pass an independent audit successfully.
• Strong teamwork, effective client-facing communication, and the capacity to articulate and defend technical decisions.

Work Schedule & Logistics: At least 4 hours of daily overlap with CET, occasional travel in Europe.
