As Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the leadership, development, and operational effectiveness of one or more engineering discipline teams. The EM serves as the people manager for engineers and is accountable for building and maintaining engineering capabilities, methodologies, standards, tools, and capacity required to successfully deliver products and projects.
You will lead these teams to continuously improve their technical practices, maintain high professional standards, and provide the resources and expertise required to support the organization’s product portfolio.
You’ll partner closely with Engineering Program Managers (EPMs), Product Managers, Product Architects, and other engineering leaders to align engineering capabilities with current and future product needs.
Key Responsibilities:
People Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead, mentor, motivate and develop engineers within assigned disciplines.
- Conduct coaching, career development, performance management, and succession planning activities.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous learning, and technical excellence.
- Recruit, onboard, and retain high-performing engineering talent.
Engineering Discipline Leadership
- Establish and evolve methodologies, standards, best practices, and processes within assigned engineering disciplines.
- Drive adoption of effective engineering tools, technologies, and workflows, encouraging continuous improvement and adoption of emerging technologies, techniques, and industry best practices.
- Promote consistency, quality, and efficiency across engineering activities.
- Ensure appropriate documentation, knowledge management, and design review practices are maintained.
- Assess current and future engineering capability need and identify skill gaps. Develop training, mentoring, and professional development plans.
Resource & Capacity Management
- Own resource planning and capacity management for assigned engineering teams.
- Allocate engineering resources across products, projects, and strategic initiatives in partnership with Engineering Program Managers and engineering leadership.
- Balance workload, priorities, and staffing requirements to optimize delivery effectiveness.
Operational Excellence
- Monitor team performance, productivity, quality, and engineering effectiveness. Drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering, quality, regulatory, and organizational standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Engineering Product Managers, Product Architects, Engineering Program Managers, Manufacturing and other stakeholders to support successful product delivery.
- Provide engineering expertise during planning, estimation, and execution activities.
- Manage engineering dependencies, risks, and staffing constraints.
- Represent the interests and capabilities of assigned engineering disciplines in organizational planning and decision-making.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Technical education — preferably in avionics, electronics, mechatronics, radio engineering, or related fields.
- Experience and knowledge in hardware product development and design practices.
- Demonstrated experience managing technical teams, including task allocation, resource planning, and performance monitoring.
- Understanding challenges faced by developers at different stages of product creation.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and stakeholder management skills.
