On behalf of our Client from the USA, Mobilunity is looking for an IOS/ Android Architect.

About the Mobile Team

As part of the Mobile team, you’ll help define the technical evolution of the native mobile applications used by thousands of field technicians.

You’ll have significant influence over mobile architecture, development practices, tooling, and engineering standards. You’ll also play an important role in determining how AI-powered development tools and agent-based workflows can be incorporated into the team’s day-to-day work.

This is not a position where you simply execute an existing technical roadmap. You’ll actively contribute to defining the direction of the mobile platform.

About You

You have extensive professional experience developing native mobile applications for both iOS and Android and enjoy solving complex problems around offline operation, synchronization, and data consistency.

You approach mobile development from a systems perspective rather than focusing only on individual screens or features. You’re also genuinely interested in AI-assisted development and have practical experience with AI tools, while understanding when they are useful and where human judgment remains essential.

You enjoy helping other engineers grow and are comfortable discussing technical decisions and trade-offs with both engineering teams and business leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Strategy & Architecture

• Take ownership of the technical roadmap for the mobile platform and ensure it supports overall product and business objectives.
• Assess new technologies, frameworks, and approaches and recommend those that provide meaningful value.
• Define and continuously improve mobile architecture patterns across Android and iOS, including MVVM and MVI.
• Strengthen application layering and separation of responsibilities to support maintainability and modernization.
• Design and maintain modular, scalable codebases that encourage reuse and make it easier for the team to grow.
• Establish architectural standards, guidelines, and review processes.
• Promote native mobile engineering best practices while keeping up with developments across the wider mobile ecosystem.
• Use technical analysis and measurable data to support technology and architecture decisions.
• Regularly review the architecture and identify opportunities to improve data flows, system behavior, user interactions, and overall application design.

Engineering Leadership & Quality

• Provide technical direction and mentorship to mobile engineers and help establish a culture of continuous improvement.
• Lead the adoption of AI-assisted development within the mobile team, including evaluating agentic approaches, development tools, and new engineering workflows.
• Identify practical ways AI can improve engineering productivity and software quality.
• Define and continuously improve the mobile testing strategy, including unit and integration testing.
• Work with QA to increase appropriate end-to-end test coverage and establish consistent testing practices.
• Participate in code reviews and establish coding standards that promote maintainable, high-quality code.
• Work closely with Design and UX to ensure technical implementation supports product requirements, user experience, and established design systems.

CI/CD, DevOps & Releases

• Own and improve mobile build and deployment pipelines using GitHub Actions and Fastlane.
• Ensure the CI/CD process is reliable, efficient, and includes appropriate automated quality checks.
• Work with Engineering Management to maintain effective release processes for both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
• Maintain and improve feature flagging and remote configuration mechanisms to support controlled releases and rapid issue mitigation.
• Define and document release management practices that reduce deployment risks and improve release reliability.

Offline Data & Synchronization

• Own the architecture supporting offline-first mobile experiences and ensure the applications continue to work reliably under different connectivity conditions.
• Design and improve approaches for synchronization, conflict handling, data consistency, and eventual consistency.
• Define appropriate data refresh mechanisms, caching approaches, and local storage strategies.
• Identify opportunities to improve local data management and overall synchronization performance.

Cross-Team Collaboration

• Work with Product Management to turn business needs into scalable technical solutions, product roadmaps, and actionable insights into user behavior.
• Collaborate closely with Backend, API, and Web engineering teams to ensure reliable integration and consistent data contracts and API design.
• Partner with Customer Support to identify technical improvements that can increase customer satisfaction and reduce recurring support issues.
• Communicate architectural decisions and the mobile technical roadmap to leadership, clearly explaining available options, trade-offs, and recommendations.

Performance & Observability

• Analyze telemetry and product data from tools such as Kibana, Crashlytics, and Pendo to identify crashes, performance problems, and patterns in user behavior.
• Lead efforts to resolve identified issues and continuously improve the mobile experience.
• Optimize application performance across a broad range of devices and network environments, including unreliable or low-bandwidth connections.
• Perform profiling and benchmarking to support architecture and implementation decisions.
• Define and maintain compatibility strategies across supported operating system versions and device capabilities.

Security & Compliance

• Work with the Security team to establish and promote mobile security standards covering encryption, secure storage, authentication, and related practices.
• Use OWASP MASVS as a reference framework when reviewing mobile architecture and security practices.
• Collaborate with Security during annual Cobalt penetration tests and support remediation of identified issues.
• Assess third-party SDKs, libraries, and dependencies for potential security concerns.
• Establish appropriate review and approval practices for introducing new third-party tools and dependencies.

Requirements:

• 7+ years of professional experience developing mobile applications, including at least 3 years working in an architectural or technical leadership capacity.
• Practical experience with AI-assisted software development tools and a realistic understanding of their benefits and limitations.
• Experience helping engineering teams adopt AI-based development practices where they can improve productivity and quality.
• Strong hands-on expertise in native Android development with Kotlin and iOS development with Swift.
• Experience publishing and maintaining applications in both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
• Strong knowledge of mobile architecture principles, design patterns, and approaches for organizing scalable codebases.
• Hands-on experience designing and implementing offline-first applications and data synchronization solutions.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, backend integration, and asynchronous programming, including technologies such as Kotlin Coroutines, Combine, Rx, or comparable solutions.
• Solid knowledge of mobile application security, including encryption, secure data storage, and authentication.
• Experience owning and improving mobile CI/CD pipelines and build automation.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities, with a demonstrated ability to influence technical decisions and support the professional growth of other engineers.
• Upper-intermediate to advanced English proficiency

Will Be a Plus:

• Experience implementing mobile payment functionality using Stripe or a comparable payment provider.
• Experience or familiarity with cross-platform technologies such as .NET MAUI, React Native, or Flutter.
• Familiarity with the Google Firebase ecosystem, including Crashlytics, Analytics, and Remote Config.
• Experience with Pendo or similar product analytics and in-app engagement solutions.
• Familiarity with mobile performance monitoring, profiling, and optimization tools.
• Understanding of DevSecOps practices and security testing approaches, including SAST, DAST, and dependency scanning.
• Experience working with feature flag platforms and remote configuration systems.
• Familiarity with SaaS products or field service management software.
• Previous experience working in a growth-stage technology company and dealing with the technical challenges that come with scaling.
