About the Role
PLVision is the engineering team behind some of the most technically demanding SONiC deployments in production today. The support organization is being built from the ground up, which means the L3 engineer hired now will shape the escalation process, the KB architecture, and the engineering interface, rather than inherit someone else’s decisions. If you want to define how this works rather than follow an existing playbook, the timing is right.
We are looking for a Open Networking Support Engineer to join our team working on SONiC-based network operating systems and products. This is a hands-on engineering role for specialists who enjoy deep technical troubleshooting, Linux and networking analysis, and close collaboration with product development teams.
In this role, you will investigate complex software and networking issues, reproduce customer-reported problems in lab environments, analyze behavior across SONiC, Linux, and network protocols, and help drive fixes, validation, and product hardening. You will work at the intersection of support, integration, and software engineering, contributing directly to product quality and supportability.

Responsibilities
✅ Own all L2 escalations from support engineers — pick up clean, reproduce it if needed, own it to resolution
✅ Lead customer war rooms for P1 and P2 incidents: technical direction, customer communication, engineering engagement
✅ Read SONiC, FRR, orchagent, syncd, and SAI source code to diagnose issues that logs alone cannot explain
✅ File structured, reproducible escalations to the engineering team as the sole support-to-engineering interface — ensuring no noise, no re-triage is left for the product team
✅ Author root cause analyses (RCAs) and post-incident reviews for every P1 and significant P2 incident
✅ Build and own the runbook and KB library for SONiC and SONiC Lite issue classes; mentor L2 engineers on triage methodology and runbook usage
✅ Track recurring issue patterns and drive them into the engineering bug backlog via the weekly triage forum
✅ Use Python and Bash scripting to accelerate diagnostics and reproduce failure scenarios reliably
Requirements
🔹3+ years in technical networking roles — NOC, network engineering, or support engineering at a senior level
🔹Deep protocol fundamentals: BGP, EVPN, VXLAN, MLAG/LACP, multicast, L2/L3 switching
🔹 Linux internals: networking stack, namespaces, containers, systemd, and kernel log analysis
🔹Ability to read C++, Python, and Go source code for diagnostic purposes — tracing through SONiC or FRR to find where a failure originates (production development skills are not required)
🔹Proficiency in Python and Bash for scripting diagnostics and lab reproduction
🔹Strong written English — owning all customer communication during escalations where precision under pressure is essential
🔹 Comfortable in stressful customer-facing situations: P1 war rooms, executive escalations, post-incident calls
Would be a plus
🔹Direct SONiC experience as an operator, contributor, or commercial distributor
🔹 FRR or Quagga internals knowledge
🔹ASIC SDK familiarity: Broadcom SDK, NVIDIA/Mellanox SDK, or Marvell
🔹gNMI, OpenConfig, streaming telemetry experience
🔹Experience with SONiC Redis architecture: STATE_DB, APPL_DB, orchagent interaction model
🔹Docker and containerized networking environments
🔹Active SONiC community participation (GitHub, Slack, OCP)
🔹Experience co-authoring a support—engineering escalation process
