QA Engineer

As the first dedicated Data QA Engineer on the team, you will establish and drive QA processes, testing standards, and quality controls across our ETL, Data Warehouse, Power BI, and Embedded Reporting solutions.

Responsibilities:

· Define and implement QA processes, testing standards, and quality gates for Data & BI projects.

· Design and execute test plans for ETL pipelines, Data Warehouse solutions, Power BI reports, and Power BI Embedded reporting solutions.

· Validate data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and business logic across source systems, ETL processes, semantic models, and reporting layers.

· Perform source-to-target validation, data reconciliation, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing.

· Test Power BI reports, semantic models, DAX calculations, and Power Query transformations.

· Validate complex KPIs, business metrics, calculations, aggregations, and reporting logic to ensure consistency with business requirements and expected outcomes.

· Validate embedded reporting functionality, Row-Level Security (RLS), customer data isolation, and access controls.

· Investigate data quality issues, perform root cause analysis, and work with developers to resolve defects.

· Collaborate closely with Data Engineers, Power BI Developers, and business stakeholders to improve overall data quality and release readiness.

· Participate in requirements reviews, solution design discussions, and data model validation activities to identify quality risks early in the development lifecycle.

· Create and maintain test documentation, test cases, defect reports, QA metrics, and testing procedures.

· Drive continuous improvement initiatives and promote quality-first practices across the team.

Requirements:

· English level — B2 or higher.

· 3+ years of experience in Data QA, ETL Testing, Data Warehouse Testing, or BI Testing.

· 5+ years of total QA experience, including Software QA, Automation QA, Data QA, or related quality-focused roles.

· Experience establishing QA processes, test strategies, and testing practices.

· Strong SQL skills with the ability to create complex validation and reconciliation queries.

· Experience testing ETL/ELT pipelines and data integration processes.

· Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modeling (star/snowflake schema).

· Experience testing Power BI reports, semantic models, DAX calculations, and dashboards.

· Experience testing Power BI Embedded or other customer-facing analytics solutions.

· Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.

Desirable Qualities:

· Experience validating historical data models and Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD).

· Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Azure DevOps.

· Understanding of data monitoring and freshness validation.

· Knowledge of Power BI REST APIs, report lineage, and metadata validation.

· Experience with performance, scalability, and security testing of analytics solutions.

· Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum/Kanban).

· Microsoft Azure, Power BI, Data Engineering, or QA certifications.
