Software Engineer

Hello! We are Moodro. We create autonomous counter-UAV solutions that operate in real combat conditions and strengthen units on the front line.

• Our systems are used daily by combat units.
• A large number of electronic warfare (EW) and electronic intelligence (ELINT) stations have already been delivered to the front line.
• Our team includes veterans and engineers who regularly test developments at testing grounds.

We are looking for a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) — an experienced technology leader and systematic manager who will define the company’s technology strategy, shape the long-term vision for R&D development, and scale the engineering team.

Our ideal candidate is a C-level executive who combines engineering expertise with business thinking, knows how to develop strong teams and their leaders, and build bridges between R&D and business.

Our new CTO will create an efficient and predictable development system that will rapidly turn a laboratory idea into a reliable mass-produced product, combining technological quality, speed of implementation, and the needs of the business and end users. They will scale R&D, ensure compliance with control milestones (Architecture Freeze, Design Freeze), and reduce Time-to-Market to bring the product to a global level together with us.

What You Will Do
Technology Strategy and Architecture

• Define the company’s technology vision and R&D development directions for the next 1–3 years: priorities, competencies, and resources required to implement the business strategy.
• Be responsible for a unified technology stack (HW, embedded, SW) and architectural integrity. Manage system architects, personally conduct key architecture reviews, and maintain a balance between quality, development speed, and production readiness.

Building and Scaling R&D

• Scale the engineering organisation while maintaining the team’s quality, energy, and motivation.
• Build a transparent management hierarchy (CTO → Engineering Managers → Team Leads / Tech Leads) and develop strong middle management with a high level of ownership at every level.
• Define the development strategy for laboratory and testing infrastructure.
• Create a culture of transparent communication, trust, and autonomy, where teams have clear goals and understand their priorities.

Processes and Quality

• Act as the Gate Approver in the Stage-Gate process and personally approve the preliminary design, architecture, final design, and readiness for mass production.
• Establish engineering standards, including ESKD, DFM/DFA/DFS, and a controlled change management process (ECR/ECO), ensuring predictability without unnecessary bureaucracy.

Intellectual Property and Suppliers

• Be responsible for the IP strategy: patent portfolio, protection of know-how, technical documentation, and code.
• Define the approach to selecting and technically auditing suppliers of critical electronic components.

C-Level Impact

• Fully participate in shaping the business strategy: assess technological opportunities and risks, influence strategic decisions and company priorities.
• Together with the CEO and CPO, align the product roadmap with technical capabilities and plan resources for technical debt.
• Together with the COO, ensure a seamless transition from development to mass production.
• Build a rapid feedback loop so that operational experience is immediately incorporated into development.

Experience

• 8+ years in CTO, VP of Engineering, or Head of R&D positions in Defence Tech, Aerospace, Robotics, or Deep Tech.
• Experience building and managing R&D organisations of 50–200+ engineers with multiple parallel product lines.
• Proven experience transforming and scaling engineering organisations: building management structures, developing middle management, and implementing processes that work.
• Deep understanding of complex HW/SW systems (microcontrollers, FPGA, SDR, RF circuitry, C/C++, RTOS, Linux, Python, DSP, computer vision) and the ability to discuss technical matters with architects on equal terms and make technical decisions.
• Practical experience with Stage-Gate, TRL 1–9, ESKD (GOST 2.102/2.104), SRPP (GOST 15.301), and DFM/DFA/DFS.
• Higher technical education (Master’s degree or PhD) in radio engineering, electronics, telecommunications, systems engineering, instrumentation engineering, or computer science.
• Fluent Ukrainian and English at B2+ level.

Will Be a Plus

• Experience in radio frequency systems (electronic warfare, electronic intelligence, radio communications).
• Experience bringing products from prototype to mass production, including military codification (NSN).
• Experience scaling hardware-software R&D using Team Topologies, Systems Thinking, or SAFe / PI Planning.
