Web / CMS Engineer
Member Minder Pro, LLC, is a US company that builds membership software, websites, and apps for Rotary clubs, districts, and nonprofit associations. We need an experienced PHP developer for a dedicated four-week contract: 160 hours, full-time, starting as soon as possible.
The contract covers two separate projects in two separate codebases.
Project 1: Site setup automation (core PHP, no WordPress), about 1 week
We host a website product on a WAMP server (Windows, Apache, MySQL, PHP). This project doesn’t use WordPress. Today, every new customer site is set up by hand, following documented procedures.
You will:
- Write PHP scripts that automate the documented setup steps on the WAMP server.
- Write the new site’s data to our database through our existing REST API.
- Test the automation end-to-end.
- Hand it off documented. Our ColdFusion team connects it to the order system afterward; that part isn’t yours.
Project 2: WordPress back end for a one-page profile product, about 3 weeks
The public front end is already built. You build the back end:
- Custom WordPress admin options pages where a customer customizes their own one-page profile, with no help from us.
- A shopping cart (planned: WooCommerce) that sells the product and existing add-ons: custom domain name, email forwarding addresses, enhanced map listing, custom blog. It must be able to sell future upgrades without a rebuild.
- An automated setup-instructions email after purchase.
- Converting an existing Leaflet map page into a reusable, unbranded WordPress plugin that gets its location data from our REST API.
- Thorough testing. Customers will use the dashboard and cart directly.
How we work
- You work independently. You get clear requirements and documented procedures, and you’re expected to plan your own work, solve problems independently, and keep moving without step-by-step guidance.
- Short daily video check-in at 9:00 Chicago time (17:00 Kyiv).
- When you need to talk with or work live with our US team, it has to happen during our business hours: 8:00–17:00 Chicago time (16:00–01:00 Kyiv). Outside those calls, you set your own working hours.
Requirements
General:
- 4+ years of professional PHP development (PHP 8).
- Proven ability to work independently on remote projects.
- Experience consuming REST APIs.
- Git.
- Written and spoken English good enough for daily work with a US team.
- Available for the daily check-in and for live calls during US business hours when needed (see “How we work”).
For Project 1 (core PHP):
- Writing PHP outside a framework or CMS: CLI scripts, file and directory operations, config generation.
- Apache and MySQL administration on Windows (WAMP) or similar.
For Project 2 (WordPress):
- Strong WordPress plugin development: custom admin pages, Settings API, custom post types and meta, roles and capabilities, hooks, security (nonces, sanitizing, escaping).
- WooCommerce development: products, add-ons or variations, checkout customization, order emails.
- Leaflet: working with map layers, markers and data loaded from an API.
Nice to have:
- EtchWP and AutomaticCSS (ACSS).
- Experience with membership or nonprofit platforms.
Conditions
- Contract: 4 weeks, 40 hours per week, paid monthly.
- Fully remote.
- Start: as soon as possible.
- You work directly with our senior WordPress developer, who built the APIs and the front end and is available daily for questions.
To apply, send:
- Your CV.
- Links to one or two WordPress plugins or WooCommerce projects you built, and what part you personally wrote.
- One example of PHP you’ve written outside WordPress: a script, tool or app.
- One example of Leaflet work.
- Your earliest start date.
